KL Rahul continued his purple patch on Day 2 and smashed a stunning ton. India ended the morning session on 218-4 as their lead was 56 runs. KL Rahul struck his 10th Test ton, and his shot selection and strike rotation were quite smart. West Indies’ team has started to fall behind in the game as batting on a treacherous surface.
KL Rahul & Shubman Gill have a steady start to Day 2
KL Rahul started the morning session on Day 2 on a positive note. KL Rahul, along with Shubman Gill continued their partnership in a swift way as Caribbean bowlers weren’t able to stop the flow of runs. Skipper Roston Chase operated spin & pace from the other end but couldn’t stop the flow of runs.
During the drinks break, India had already started building the lead, as at the end of 51 overs, India’s score was 174-2. West Indies was badly missing the services of Shamar Joseph & Alzarri Joseph, as alone Jayden Seales didn’t get the support from the other end, which was needed.
KL Rahul strucks a magnanimous ton
Shubman Gill was outdone by skipper Roston Chase in the 57th over. Shubman Gill would rue the fact that he couldn’t convert his half-century into a big ton as he was looking threatening. Shubman Gill’s decision to play a reverse sweep shot didn’t yield the result as the partnership between him & KL Rahul was broken after a hard resistance of 193 runs, as the duo added 98 runs. Dhruv Jurel & KL Rahul got the innings back on track after the dismissal of Shubman Gill. KL Rahul was unaffected by the departure of the skipper. At the stroke of the morning session, KL Rahul completed his ton and was delighted with yet another dominant performance. India accumulated 97 runs in 29 overs and lost 1 wicket, and has a 56-run lead.
What lies ahead in the afternoon session for India & West Indies
India is cruising ahead in 1st Test match. It would sound quite obvious that another close to 100 runs session for India will tighten their grip in the Test match. West Indies, on the other hand, would be hoping that they take some wickets before the second new ball. It’s crystal clear that the West Indies are way behind the game as not only KL Rahul holds the key but India still has Ravindra Jadeja in dug out as it’s high time the West Indies need quick wickets in the afternoon session.
