Rohit Sharma led Team India to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Team India played the whole tournament without a single defeat. They had a 100% win record and became the first team to achieve this feat in a T20 World Cup.

After Rohit Sharma assisted India in ending their 11-year drought for an ICC trophy, legendary Indian batter, and former captain Sunil Gavaskar has saved the greatest compliments for Rohit Sharma. The Indian squad, captained by Rohit, defeated South Africa by seven runs in the June 29 T20 World Cup 2024 final held in Barbados.

In the 20-team competition, the 37-year-old right-handed hitter for the Men in Blue was in scorching form. He scored 257 runs in eight games with the aid of three half-centuries. Like MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev, Rohit is a captain of the people, according to Gavaskar, who expressed his admiration for him.

Rohit Sharma Is People’s Captain

Sunil Gavaskar said Rohit Sharma is a people’s captain like MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev. He said :

“Rohit Sharma joins those other two cricketing giants, Kapil Dev and Dhoni, in captaining India to a World Cup trophy. Like the duo were, Rohit is also a people’s captain,”  Gavaskar on Mid Day.

“Well liked, not only by his team members but by the entire Indian cricketing community. The cricket fans also love his laconic style of leadership, and tactically, he is as good as the sharpest in the game. Some of his moves can surprise you and make you scratch your head as to the reason, but the end result is more often than not exactly what the team needed at that moment,”

With India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 championship match, Rohit became the first captain in history to win the T20 World Cup title with a perfect win percentage and the first skipper to win 50 T20Is.

“He led from the front, showing a complete disregard for personal milestones and instead looking to get the team off to a flying start every time. India is blessed to have him as their captain,” Gavaskar said.

The 74-year-old Gavaskar, who is now a broadcaster and expert, was also quite complimentary of departing Indian head coach Rahul Dravid.

“While the players naturally took all the limelight as they should, there was the support staff led by the one and only Rahul Dravid, who also had a massive role to play in the victory. What a terrific combo the two Rs made! Totally team-oriented, completely selfless, and prepared to do anything and everything for Team India,” he added.

As the head coach of India, Dravid’s final task was the T20 World Cup in 2024. squad India is currently playing five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against Zimbabwe, with VVS Laxman leading the squad. After the Sri Lankan series, a new head coach will officially take over.
