Shubman Gill’s India overcame a humiliating 13-run loss to Zimbabwe on Sunday at Harare Sports Club, recording the largest run-count victory. With an incredible 46-ball century to herald his entrance on the big stage, young Abhishek Sharma helped India thrash Zimbabwe by a massive 100 runs.

On a field where batting wasn’t exactly simple, left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma combined power and grace for a thrilling century-run knock that pushed India to a mammoth 234 for two, demonstrating that the young Indian side wasn’t burdened by the surprising loss in the opening match of the series.

Ruturaj Gaikwad played a handy knock scoring 77 runs in 47 balls along with Abhishek. Rinku Singh proved his mettle by scoring a quick-fire 48 of just 22 balls. Zimbabwe was bowled out for 134 in 18.4 overs by Indian bowlers, who were already making a lot of effort and consistently producing breakthroughs to set the record straight.

Shubman Gill Happy To Be On The Winning Note

Shubman Gill looked pleased after they defeated Zimbabwe in the second T2o. He said in his post-match presentation :

“Very happy, great to be back on the winning note again. With the way Abhishek and Rutu batted, it was not easy especially in the powerplay, with the ball moving around but Abhi and Rutu built the innings brilliantly. Yesterday, it was more about not being able to handle the pressure, it’s a young side and many of them are new to international exposure,”

“It was actually good to have pressure in the first game and we knew what to expect coming into this game. We have got three matches to go and we are looking forward to them. It’s always good to have more options rather than not having options,” he added.

Zimbabwe suffered additional damage from their subpar fielding performance when they failed to hold onto Gaikwad’s catch. Gaikwad proceeded from where Abhishek had left off, scoring 87 runs off 36 balls for the third wicket alongside Rinku Singh (48 not out off 22 balls), who also made merry with five massive sixes.

Shubman Gill and team are comparatively young and inexperienced at the international level. The score was higher than India’s previous best of 186 in T20 Internationals against Zimbabwe, and it was a fitting comeback following an unexplainable batting collapse in the first game. Shubman Gill & Co will be looking to win the series from here on.
