Tom Banton stood up and played well under pressure with his unbeaten 63 off 41 balls as he took England over the line. Tom Banton looked in total control of the proceedings and dominated the spinners as his innings went a long way in helping England win the game. England put Scotland into bat and restricted them to 152 with Adil Rashid picking up 3 wickets and Jofra Archer 2 wickets and others chipped in as well while Richie Berrington played well for his 49.
In reply, Tom Banton led the charge as his unbeaten half-century alongside crucial contributions from Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran helped England get over the line in the end by 5 wickets. Put into bat first, George Munsey and Michael Jones came out to open for Scotland while Jofra Archer had ball in hand for England. The openers gave Scotland a steady start but could put only 18 runs for the first wicket before Munsey fell for 4 off 6 balls with one boundary to his name to Jofra Archer. Brandon McMullen came out to bat next. Archer had two in the over as McMullen fell for a silver duck. Captain Richie Berrington came out to bat next.
The duo of Jones and Berington got together to forge a partnership. The duo put on 24 runs for the 3rd wicket before Jones the opener fell for 33 off 20 balls with 5 fours and one six to his name to Sam Curran inside the powerplay. Tom Bruce came out to bat next. The powerplay score for Scotland was 42/3 as England was on the ascendancy.
Berrington and Bruce started to forge a partnership in the middle phase of the game. The duo went through the middle phase unscathed and tried to build a platform for the others to follow. Davidson added some crucial runs in the death overs to give the score some respectability. He played some lusty blows as well. The duo of Wheal and Davidson added 21 runs for the 9th wicket before Bradley Wheal fell for 2 off 3 balls to Jamie Overton. Bradley Currie came out to bat next. Just 4 runs were added to the tally before Currie fell for 2 off 5 balls to a run out. Chasing 153 runs for the win, Philip Salt and Jos Buttler the keeper batter opened the batting for England while Brandon McMullen had ball in hand for Scotland. Scotland got an early breakthrough as Salt fell with 2 runs on the board as he fell for 2 off 3 balls in the first over of the match to McMullen. Jacob Bethell came out to bat next. Buttler and Bethell tried to forge a partnership but could only put 11 runs for the second wicket with Bethell scoring the bulk of the runs before Buttler fell for 3 off 4 balls to Bradley Currie.
Tom Banton came out to bat next to join Bethell in the middle. Bethell and Banton started to rebuild things for England with Bethell doing the bulk of the scoring while Banton joined in as well. The duo played through to the powerplay as England at the end of the powerplay recovered to get to 43/2 in 6 overs. They carried it on till the middle phase of the game. Captain Harry Brook came out to bat next. He did not last long either. The duo of Banton and Brook put on 7 runs for the 4th wicket before captain Brook gave his wicket away for 4 off 4 balls to Michael Leask. Sam Curran came out to bat next. Curran played himself in but Banton put on a masterclass. He was in control of the chase playing straight down the ground and Curran took time to get in but then flourished.
The duo put on an important 46-run stand off 33 balls for the 5th wicket with Curran doing his bit while Banton completed his well compiled half century. The score went to 132 before Sam fell for 28 off 20 balls with one four and two sixes to his name to Bradley Wheal. Will Jacks came out to bat next.
Jacks and Banton now ensured that there were no hiccups from here on. They played the Scotland bowling really well and showed that the score was 20-30 short. Jacks played his natural game and played the role of finisher. He came in with 21 needed off 24 balls and after getting in sealed the deal with a six and a boundary as England got over the line by 5 wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Banton was unbeaten on 63 off 41 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes to his name while Jacks was unbeaten on 16 off 10 balls with one four and one six to his name. England finished with 155/5 in 18.2 overs with 7 extras given by the fielding side.
Scotland bowlers tried their best but it was too low a score to defend. Brandon McMullen finished with 1/23 in 3 overs. Bradley Currie finished with 1/21 in 3 overs. Bradley Wheal finished with 1/23 in 3.2 overs. Michael Leask finished with 1/33 in 4 overs. Oliver Davidson finished with 1/12 in 2 overs. Mark Watt was clobbered for 43 runs in 3 overs. So, England win by 5 wickets with 10 balls to spare. Tom Banton was awarded the Player of the Match Award.
