GT vs DC: 3 Reasons For DC’s Defeat Against GT

GT clinched the victory in the last over in a high-scoring thriller against DC. Jos the Boss led the chase, supported by Sai Sudharsan (36 in 21), Sherfane Rutherford (43 in 34), and Rahul Tewatia (11 in 3). GT chased down 204 runs with 7 wickets in hand as Jos Buttler (*97 runs in 54 balls & struck 11 fours and 4 sixes). DC missed a few moments, which cost them the match.

Axar Patel’s slow knock

This pitch was a good batting paradise and was suitable to post a huge total while batting under the sunlight.DC batters started the innings aggressively, every batter went for boundaries right from the first ball. Captain Axar Patel walked in when the score was 58/2 in 4.4 overs. He thought he could hold one end while the other batters could go for shots.

That turned out to be the wrong decision in the end. He couldn’t make up for his anchor knock in the death overs. He scored 39 runs off 32 balls and got out in the 18th over. He anchored the innings brilliantly but lost his wicket at the wrong time, and that could have cost 10-15 runs for DC in the end.

Error in combination

DC made another blunder by pressing the panic button at the wrong time when there was no need for that. They lost two back-to-back wickets of Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam in the first 2 balls of the 18th over. They sent Donovan Ferreira as an impact sub for Abhishek Porel, for just the remaining 16 balls. Asutosh Sharma was still there in the crease.

DC had Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav to follow, who could bat decently and give support to Ashutosh Sharma. Their plan of bringing in Ferriera backfired as he got out for just 1 run and played 3 balls. He failed to create an impact.

Jos Buttler steers GT home

One man stood like a wall in front of DC was Jos Buttler. The veteran is known for his clutch knocks in high-scoring chases, and he yet again delivered a masterclass performance of 97*(54) yesterday. Jos Buttler attacked DC’s best bowler, Mitchell Starc, for 5 consecutive fours in the 15th over, which put DC on the back foot before entering the death overs. GT needed 46 runs to win from the last 5 overs as the 20-run over proved to be the game-changing one.

More than DC’s mistakes, Jos Buttler’s show was the main reason for their defeat. When a player of his caliber keeps going, you can’t do anything on the field.
