CSK vs KKR : MS Dhoni’s Candid Take On CSK Openers Aren’t Fierce Strokeplay Batters

In IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings are struggling in a deep slump, with MS Dhoni unable to turn the tide. Despite their rich legacy, the team’s outdated tactics and lack of spark leave them on the brink of collapse, with no clear hero to save them even newly appointed skipper MS Dhoni and the fall of Chennai Super Kings has a striking resemblance to the 2012 Christopher Nolan blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises

In Christopher Nolan’s 2012 blockbuster, The Dark Knight Rises, Bruce Wayne is cast into an ancient underground prison by Bane — a brutal hell he calls ‘the worst on earth’. Physically broken and emotionally drained, Bruce lies among the damned, staring up at a distant circle of light. Only when Bruce embraces fear — the fear of falling, of dying, of failing — does he rise.

Right now, Chennai Super Kings are in their own Pit. Five defeats in six games. Their best look broken. Their leader, MS Dhoni, sounded more defeated than ever following CSK’s eight-wicket capitulation to Kolkata Knight Riders-one of the worst losses in their IPL history. The way out exists. But it demands more than just skill. It demands belief, urgency-and yes, fear. Because no one escapes the Pit by playing it safe.

KKR embarrasses CSK at Chepauk in a thumping 8 wicket win over them

Chennai Super Kings have hit rock bottom after an embarrassing defeat against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk. The five-time champions have lost five matches in a row for the first time in the season as the return of MS Dhoni as captain couldn’t help them escape the hammering from Knight Riders.

The batting line-up continued to falter as they looked out of options at the moment with a forgettable performance on Friday night, where they scored 103/9 playing at home. The absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the order only made things worse, as CSK were forced to sacrifice Matheesha Pathirana to use Impact Player for Deepak Hooda when they faced a collapse against the KKR spin unit. CSK lost their third match at Chepauk this year, the first time in a season in their history

After restricting CSK to 103/9 – this season’s lowest score, KKR didn’t find any difficulty chasing the paltry target. KKR cantered home in 10.1 overs, with opener Sunil Narine bludgeoning his way to a 18-ball 44 studded with two fours and five sixes.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane also played his part with a solid 20 not out off 17 balls, while Quinton de Kock, the other opener, contributed 23. Rinku Singh also remained not out on 15 off 12 balls. It was another underwhelming night for CSK’s big buy this season, R Ashwin, who leaked 30 runs in three overs and failed to claim any wickets

The poor batting displays continued for the Chennai Super Kings on Friday as they suffered their fifth straight loss in the six games in the Indian Premier League 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated CSK at their home ground in Chepauk, with 10 overs to spare. This is the first time in IPL history that MS Dhoni and co. have suffered three straight losses at the Chepauk Stadium.

They linger in the bottom half of the points table, almost halfway through the stage. After the CSK batting lineup only managed to score at a strike rate of 124.23, which is the worst among the 10 teams in the season so far. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stand-in captain MS Dhoni wants his team to “look deep down inside,” after they lost their fifth straight game in IPL 2025. CSK were trounced by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets with nearly 10 overs to spare in a chase of 104.

MS Dhoni honestly confessed that his team CSK is not a team who will score 60 runs in the Powerplay after a shambolic loss to KKR

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni opened up on their horror show with the bat as they suffered another crushing defeat in the IPL 2025 game on Friday at the Chepauk. With the Super Kings managing only 31 runs in the powerplay against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Dhoni said they can’t go looking to score 60 in the first six overs.

After choosing to bowl first, the defending champions picked wickets at regular intervals with hardly any batters of the home side getting going. Only four Chennai batters reached double figures and managed 103/9 in 20 overs. The Knight Riders won in a canter by eight wickets with 59 balls to spare.

Speaking at the post-game presentation, MS Dhoni, who could score 1 off 4, explained that CSK have batters who play textbook shots, suggesting their motto is to take the game deep.

“Our openers are good openers, play authentic cricket shots, they don’t slog or look to hit across the line. It is important not to get desperate seeing the scorecard. If we start looking for 60 (in powerplay) with our lineup, it will be very difficult for us. Get partnerships going, maybe capitalise in the middle and later overs and if we lose wickets, the middle order has to do their job differently. And the slog will be delayed for quite a while.”

On a surface that was slow, Kolkata’s spinners operated quite well, led by Moeen Ali, who bowled a maiden and took the wicket of Devon Conway. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy picked up five scalps between them.

MS Dhoni went on to lament the lack of partnerships on the surface, admitting that Kolkata’s quality spinners exploited it quite well. He added:

“It has been quite a few nights that has not gone our way. The challenge has been there, we have to accept the challenge. Today I felt we did not have enough runs on the board. It has been the case over there, when we bowled in the 2nd innings it stopped a bit, today it did in the first innings. When you lose too many wickets, there is pressure and with quality spinners it is difficult. We never got any partnerships and bit more partnerships, application and we would be fine.”

It was also the third straight defeat for Chennai at home and they have lost five matches this season. Miracles do happen. Especially when MS Dhoni is in charge. But this time, the magic seems to have faded. The boat has too many holes to survive the storm, let alone reach the shore.

The empire that MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming built over the years is starting to crumble. There’s no spark in the well. And no one seems willing to make the climb without the rope.
