CSK ‘s losing streak continues in this IPL. They have lost 5 consecutive matches for the first time in IPL history. MS Dhoni’s comeback as CSK captain didn’t create any impact against KKR yesterday. Out-of-form players playing in a crucial position are affecting the team’s overall performance.
Lack of intent in batting
CSK has the lowest strike rate in the powerplay in this season, scoring just 7.3 runs per over. Their batters lack the power-hitting ability. Both the openers, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, are technically sound players and not sloggers. The one down batter, Rahul Tripathi, is completely out of form and struggles to time the balls.
The only reliable six-hitter in the top four is Shivam Dube. So, when he fails, the whole team struggles. When the top order didn’t get enough runs on board and lost their wickets earlier, the other batters weren’t able to go for their shots. The entire innings lacks momentum because of this.
Spin choke or Spinner’s choke
CSK retained Ravindra Jadeja and picked 2 front-line spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Noor Ahmad, in the auction. This trio looked dangerous and was expected to choke the opponents at Chepauk. But things went upside down in this tournament so far.
Only Noor Ahmad was bowling effectively and taking wickets in every match. Ashwin was struggling with out-of-form and couldn’t create an impact in the powerplay. Jadeja was decent, but he also couldn’t dominate and choke the opponents.
When your main strength in the bowling department is struggling, it always leaks extra runs to the opponents and creates pressure on the batters. The opponent team’s spinners are bowling really well and creating impact at the Chepauk wicket. They are choking CSK batters in their home.
Time for the young bloods?
CSK faced a similar situation in 2020. After losing 7-8 matches and getting kicked out of the tournament, they tried youngsters in their last few matches, and Ruturaj Gaikwad was found in that season. This team, again, when the senior batters are not in form, CSK can try with youngsters before it’s too late.
Young guns like Shaik Rasheed, Vansh Bedi, Ramakrishna Gosh, and Andre Siddharth are waiting for their chance on the bench. Shaik Rasheed has travelled with CSK for the past 2 years. he might be given a chance in the upcoming matches, and CSK might find another “Ruturaj” for the future with a lot of spark.
