SRH vs GT: 3 Reasons For SRH’s Crushing Defeat Against GT

The new rules in this IPL season, such as allowing Saliva to shine the ball and introducing a new ball to counter the dew factor, have impacted the game massively. It is affecting the game plan of teams like SRH, who are heavily dependent on their batting. The Pat Cummins-led side lost the match by 7 wickets & had set not a strong target of 153 runs, which GT cruised quite easily. Let’s explore the reasons for SRH‘s fourth back-to-back defeat in IPL 2025.

SRH’s Aggressive Approach

This has been the story of SRH this season. Their attacking approach worked for them in the flat decks and when the dew factor was high in the last season. But this season, BCCI had taken measures to control the dew factors and started producing even wickets where the bowlers get some help.

SRH’s 300 vision won’t be possible in these pitches. They need to change their game plan according to the conditions. They are always falling 20-30 runs short of their par score, which made the chase easy for the opponents. The destructive duo of Travis Head & Abhishek Sharma was sent to the pavilion by Mohammed Siaj very cheaply, as it seems straight line & lengths have been troubling SRH openers massively.

Taking on the best bowler

After the early wickets, Nitish Reddy spent some time in the crease and was all set to take on the death overs. R Sai Kishore came to bowl his last over. He is the best spinner for them in this season and has bowled well in that match with his spell of 3-22-1.

R Sai Kishore came to the bowl in the 16th over, and Nitish tried to take on him in the first ball and lost his wicket. Nitish Reddy lost his wicket in the most important phase of the game as the score was 105-5 in 15.1 overs. Had he held his wicket in that over or looked for some risk-free option by scoring boundaries in the gap, he would have survived to take on the rest of the bowlers.

Nitish Reddy would have made up for his slow knock of 31 off 34 balls. But he played the wrong shot against their best bowler and threw his wicket. Pat Cummins’ cameo of 22 in 9 saved SRH and took them past 150.

Poor bowling plan

SRH are using Simarjeet Singh as an impact sub instead of Rahul Chahar since the first match and it is not working for them. Yesterday he bowled only one over and gave 20 runs. In the 6th over, as he was whacked by Washington Sundar all around the park. They are using him as the fourth pacer when they already have Mohammed Shami, Pat Cummins, and Harshal Patel/Jaydev Unadkat.

They are using Zeeshan Ansari as their prime spinner, and Kamindu Mendis is their second spinner. Kamindu Mendis is a part-time bowler and cannot be used as a prime spinner. Rahul Chahar is an experienced spinner who could also handle pressure situations.

Rahul Chahar was part of the Mumbai Indians squad that won the trophy in 2019 and 2020. He played as their primary spinner and performed really well on the flat deck of Wankhede. His inclusion will create an impact and will make the sun rise.
