ICC T20 WC 2026: Saiteja Mukkamalla & Harmeet Singh Sinks Netherlands.

Saiteja Mukkamalla shone with the bat while Harmeet Singh shone with the ball as USA thrashed Netherlands by 93 runs to get their first win and climb upwards in the points table to 3rd place. Both players looked determined to perform in their respective fields. Put into bat first, USA posted 196/6 in 20 overs on the back of Mukkamalla’s magnificent 79 off 51 balls and other valuable contributions from Monank Patel and Shubham Ranjane also helped USA post close to 200.

In reply, Harmeet Singh picked up 4 wickets for 21 runs while Shadley van Schalkwyk finished with 3 wickets as they finished with 3/21 in 2.5 overs. Mohammad Mohsin finished with 2/19 in 3 overs as the Dutch never really got going and fell like nine pins and pack of cards falling for 103 all out in 15.5 overs. The Dutch have now slipped to 4th place in table.

Saiteja Mukkamalla’s magical 79 powered USA to 196/6. 

Put into bat first, captain Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir came out to open the innings for USA while Aryan Dutt started the proceedings for Netherlands. The openers got off to a fast start and made their intentions clear as both the players got starts. The duo put on 27 for the first wicket before Jahangir fell for 20 off 14 balls with one four and two sixes to his name to Kyle Klein. Saiteja Mukkamalla came out to bat next.

Then began the Mukkamalla show as he dazzled under the lights in Chennai. Monank complimented him well and played fluently as well. The powerplay score was a healthy 53/1 in 6 overs as the pitch seemed a belter at Chennai. They carried on beyond that as they put on 55 runs for the 2nd wicket at the right tempo before the captain Patel fell for 36 off 22 balls with 3 fours and one six to his name Bas de Leede. Sanjay Krishnamurthi came to the crease next.

Mukkamalla was in the zone and did bulk of the scoring. The duo put on 23 runs for the third wicket before Krishnamurthi fell for a mere 1 run to Fred Klaasen. Shubham Ranjane came out to bat next. Ranjane and Mukkamalla again built a solid stand as partnership was the name of the game for the USA team. The duo put on 54 runs for the 4th wicket before Mukkamalla who completed his half century and went beyond finally fell for 79 off 51 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes to his name to Bas de Leede.

Milind Kumar came out to bat next. Ranjane took over the aggressor’s role and provided the finishing kick to the innings. The duo put on 26 runs for the 5th wicket before Milind fell for 3 off 4 balls to Bas de Leede. Harmeet Singh came out to bat next. Another 3 runs were added to the score before Harmeet fell for 1 off 2 balls to Logan van Beek. Mohammad Mohsin came out to bat next.

8 more runs were added by Ranjane and Mohsin off 4 balls as USA finished with a mammoth 196/6 in 20 overs. Ranjane remained unbeaten on 48 off 24 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name while Mohsin remained unbeaten on 1 off 1 ball. 7 extras given by the fielding side.

Bas de Leede was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/37 in 4 overs. Logan van Beek finished with 1/28 in 4 overs. Kyle Klein finished with 1/35 in 4 overs. Fred Klaassen finished with 1/32 in 3 overs. Aryan Dutt finished with 0/24 in 2 overs while Roelof van der Merwe finished with 0/36 in 3 overs. This meant that Netherlands needed a massive 197 runs to win this contest.

Harmeet Singh’s 4-wicket haul sinks Netherlands for 103 in 15.5 overs. 

Chasing 197 to win in Chennai, Michael Levitt and Max O’Dowd came out to open for Netherlands while Ali Khan took the new ball for USA. The Dutch got off to a shaky start as they lost Levitt at the start of the second over as he fell for 3 off 7 balls to Nosthush Kenjige as the score was 9 runs. Bas de Leede came out to bat next. The duo of Max and Bas tried to forge a partnership to rebuild things and put on 32 runs for the second wicket before Max fell for 13 off 11 balls with one four to his name to Harmeet Singh.

Colin Ackermann came out to bat next. He fell for a golden duck as 4 runs were added to the tally before he fell to Shadley van Schalkwyk. Captain Scott Edwards came out to bat next and the powerplay score was 51/3 for the Dutch in 6 overs. The duo added 8 runs to the tally as Bas de Leede fell after the powerplay for 23 off 17 balls with one four and one six to his name. Zach Lion Cachet came out to bat next.

The duo added another 13 runs to the tally before Cachet fell for 6 off 5 balls with one boundary to his name as he was cleaned up by Mohsin Khan. Roelof van der Merwe came to the crease with the score at 66/5 in 8 overs. Edwards tried his best alongside van der Merwe and added 9 runs to the tally before Edwards fell for 20 off 14 balls with 2 fours to his name. Logan van Beek came out to bat next.

The duo could only add 9 runs to the tally before Roelof fell for 10 off 11 balls to Harmeet Singh. Aryan Dutt came out to bat next. Another one bit the dust soon as another 2 runs were scored to the tally before Logan fell for 2 off 5 balls to Mohsin. Kyle Klein came out to bat next. Klein and Dutt added 10 more runs to the score as it was a matter of time now for USA to win. Aryan fell for 9 off 7 balls with one six to his name to Shadley. Fred Klaassen came out to bat next.

The Dutch got past the 100-run mark as the last wicket pair added 7 runs to the tally before Klaassen fell for 3 off 6 balls to Shadley. Netherlands were bowled out for 103 in 15.5 overs with Kyle Klein remaining unbeaten on 6 off 11 balls. 8 extras given by the fielding side.

Harmeet Singh was the pick of the bowlers for USA with figures of 4/21 in 4 overs. Shadley van Schalkwyk finished with 3/21 in 2.5 overs. Mohammad Mohsin finished with 2/19 in 3 overs. Nosthush Kenjige finished with 1/20 in 3 overs. Ali Khan finished with 0/18 in 3 overs. Shubham Ranjane finished with 0/4 in 1 over. So, USA thrashed Netherlands by 93 runs. Harmeet Singh was adjudged the Player of the Match.

What Lies Ahead. 

So, USA thrashed Netherlands by 93 runs to get their first points in the table. Both the teams now have one game left and have one win in three games and are in 3rd and 4th in the table. USA will next play Namibia in afternoon game on Sunday in Chennai while Netherlands will face India in Ahmedabad on 18th evening game. So, a lot to look forward to in Group A as well.
