AUS vs ENG: England Announces Squad For ODIs & T20Is

England have already announced their squads for the limited-overs tour of Australia in November, and in big breaking news, we will see the return of Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell in that squad for the ODIs. For the record, Jofra Archer has been rested for the upcoming tri-series in Pakistan, which involves Sri Lanka as the third team. Jacob Bethell has returned after completing recovery from the knee injury sustained during the ODI series against India in July.

This is a 16-member ODI squad which will be led by Harry Brook, and it is close to full strength ahead of next year’s ODI World Cup. Only Jos Buttler is unavailable following his recent hamstring surgery, while Saqib Mahmood missed out due to a knee injury. However, Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue will not be part of the T20Is that follow as England will manage their fast bowlers ahead of the Test tour of South Africa.

Marcus North’s views on the England ODI squad

England’s national selector Marcus North said in a press conference, “The returns of Jacob Bethell and Jofra Archer for the ODI series mean that we will be at close to full strength as we ramp up preparations for a World Cup in a year. The four quick bowlers will then leave after the three-game ODI series as we look to manage them ahead of the Test tour of South Africa.”

Phil Salt returns amidst four uncapped players in England’s T20I squad

England’s T20I squad will see four uncapped players make their appearance, including Thomas Rew and Eddie Jack, who have received their maiden call-ups. Rew, 18, will be the youngest member of the squad and received an ECB central contract yesterday. Rew had captained England to the final of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup in February. Both he and Jack were part of the England Lions squad that had toured Australia last year.

In other developments, Phil Salt returned after recovering from the quad injury that kept him out of England’s 3-0 whitewash T20I series win over Sri Lanka last month. Aneurin Donald retained his place after making his debut in that particular series, while Luke Wood has also been recalled to the T20I side.

Marcus North’s views on the T20I squad vs Australia

Chairman of selectors, Marcus North, said, “Our T20 team has been in excellent form under captain Harry Brook, and we are looking forward to the opportunity to test ourselves in Australian conditions against a very good team.”

England’s white-ball tour Down Under will begin with a warm-up game at the WACA in Perth on November 7th. The three ODIS are set to be played on November 13th at the Optus Stadium in Perth, November 15th at the Adelaide Oval in South Australia and November 18th at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. The five-match T20I series will begin on November 21st at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with subsequent games scheduled in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra.

So, the stage is set and we shall see how things unfold when Australia hosts England in a bumper white-ball series in the month of November. It’s going to be exciting for sure.
