ICC T20 WC 2026: Saiteja Mukkamalla’s Magical Innings Powers USA To 196/6.

Saiteja Mukkamalla stood up and be counted when it mattered the most as his 79 off 51 balls powered USA to 196/6 in 20 overs. Mukkamalla was a determined person out there ready to perform as he got support from other players like Monank Patel and Shubham Ranjane to post a competitive total on the board. For the Dutch, Bas de Leede picked up 3 wickets while the others chipped in as well on a flat deck. The dew is coming in. This game can go either way from here.

USA gets off to a solid start in powerplay overs. 

Put into bat first, captain Monank Patel and captain Shayan Jahangir came out to bat for USA while Aryan Dutt had ball in hand for Netherlands. Jahangir made his intentions clear as he rocked back and swatted it over square leg for the maximum. Jahangir got a triple away to the fine leg region. Logan van Beek came into the attack from the other end. Jahangir welcomed him with a maximum with a pull over square leg for the maximum. Logan gave away 4 leg byes to the batting side.

Kyle Klein came into the attack next. Jahangir slammed the ball away over covers for a boundary. Klein came back and had the last laugh as he removed Jahangir for 20 off 14 balls with one four and two sixes to his name as he was cleaned up by the bowler. Saiteja Mukkamalla came out to bat next. Logan continued as Patel played a delectable boundary by playing a straight drive down the ground past the bowler.

Klein continued as Patel heaved it away to the midwicket region for a boundary. Fred Klaassen came into the attack to bowl the last over of powerplay. Mukkamalla welcomed the bowler with a smash down the ground over long-off for the maximum. Mukkamalla was not done there as he thumped the bowler away to the long-off fence. At the end of the powerplay overs, USA were 53/1 with Monank unbeaten on 16 off 12 balls while Mukkamalla unbeaten on 13 off 10 balls. Drinks was taken on the field.

Aryan Dutt returned to the attack after the break. Monank played the slog sweep as he nailed it over midwicket for the maximum. Roelof van der Merwe came into the attack for the first time next. Roelof bowled a decent first over. Bas de Leede came into the attack next. Patel placed the ball to perfection as he swatted the ball away between deep midwicket and long-on for a boundary. Bas de Leede bounced back and got rid of captain Monank for 36 off 22 balls with 3 fours and one six to his name as he looked for the ramp shot and edged it away to the keeper Scott Edwards. Sanjay Krishnamurthi came out to bat next. Roelof continued in the 10th over as Mukkamalla went big and beat long-off over the bowler’s head for a boundary. Mukkamalla chipped the ball away as he placed the ball between deep cover and long-off for a boundary. USA reached 96/2 in 10 overs at the halfway stage of the game.

Fred Klaassen came onto bowl next as Mukkamalla slashed it away between backward point and short third man for a boundary. The 100 came up for USA in 10.1 overs. Mukkamalla went big as he cut it away through backward point and short third man for a boundary. Klaassen dismissed Krishnamurthi for 1 off 2 balls as he played down the wrong line and the ball crashed onto the stumps. Shubham Ranjane came out to bat next.

Kyle Klein returned to the attack as Mukkamalla went bang as he played the lofted square drive and the ball sailed over deep cover point for the maximum as he got to his fifty in 30 balls. Bas de Leede returned to the attack as Ranjane shuffled across the stumps and got inside the line and helped it away over short fine leg for a boundary. USA were 136/3 in 14 overs when Drinks was taken, the second interval of the innings. Fred Klaassen came to bowl now Mukkamalla stood tall and pulled it away over midwicket region for the maximum. USA reached 148/3 in 15 overs with Mukkamalla unbeaten on 74 off 45 balls and Ranjane unbeaten on 12 off 7 balls. USA set to score a big total.

Netherlands pull things back a little to keep USA down to 196/6. 

Logan van Beek came to bowl next. He bowled a decent over. Bas de Leede came to bowl the 17th over. He got rid of Mukkamalla for a magnificent 79 off 51 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes to his name as he was holed out at deep backward square leg. Milind Kumar came out to bat next and got off the mark next. Klein came back for his final over as Ranjane hit a boundary by getting a top edge over the keeper for a boundary. Ranjane went big and pulled it away over deep backward square leg for the maximum.

Bas de Leede came to bowl the 19th over as Ranjane went big and clubbed it over long-off for the maximum. Ranjane hit a boundary as he helped it on its way to the short fine leg fence. Bas de Leede hit back as he got rid of Milind Kumar for 3 off 4 balls as Edwards took a very good diving catch. Harmeet Singh came out to bat next and got off the mark.

Logan came to bowl the final over of the innings as he removed Harmeet for 1 off 2 balls as Roelof took another good catch. Mohammad Mohsin came out to bat next and got off the mark. In the end, USA finished below 200 as they finished with 196/6 in 20 overs. Ranjane was unbeaten on 48 off 24 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name while Mohsin remained unbeaten on 1 off 1 ball. 7 extras given by the fielding side.

Bas de Leede was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/37 in 4 overs. Logan van Beek finished with 1/28 in 4 overs. Kyle Klein finished with 1/35 in 4 overs. Fred Klaassen finished with 1/32 in 3 overs. Aryan Dutt went for 24 runs in 2 overs. Roelof van der Merwe went for 36 runs in 3 overs. This meant the Dutch Netherlands needed 197 runs to win the contest.

Who’s Winning, Netherlands or USA? 

USA have got the runs on the board but the pitch looks flat and dew is setting in. So, the Dutch will fancy chasing this down. USA has done well to get to 196/6. Now, they have to bowl well to get the victory in a must-win game for them. As of now, USA has runs on the board. The match is in the balance.
