SA vs WI: Quinton De Kock Buries West Indies & Seals Series

With the 2nd T20I match between South Africa and West Indies officially over, it was a complete domination by one side, even though this match started out much closer. Seeing that the Proteas ended up winning, they are now one match away from winning this series and look more than ready for this upcoming tournament.

Looking at Marco Jansen and Tristan Stubbs returning to this side, the real question is how will the puzzle be put together when Lungi Ngidi comes back as a key fast-bowler. As Aiden Markram continues leading this side at a top-notch level, his captaincy has become a reason for the South Africa side to believe they will make it much further than anticipated.

Meanwhile, West Indies are in a world of trouble since their bowling attack has shown to be a real detrimental factor to their success. In hopes of making a deep run after several failed attempts over the past couple years, this and their leadership tactics will have to change because it is not working at the current moment.

Knowing that Shai Hope was back today, this was the West Indies side at full strength, and there is hopes for Shamar Joseph to return for the World Cup. Going back on the conversation of captinancy, Shai Hope was listed as the leader of this unit and will need to make some drastic changes to their playing 11 in order to win the next match.

West Indies: Power-Hitting Was The Story For This Unit To Get Towards A Very High Total

Looking at the way this West Indies side batted today, it became pretty clear that they went in with a plan which would help them attack the boundaries more. Opener Shai Hope made his return to this side, and despite getting out for 4 on 7 balls, his opposing partner, Brandon King, got off to a flier. Someone whose recently been consistent with his ability to find gaps and be on time, this piece was able to produce 49 runs, alongside 8 sixes plus fours, to create a massive 126-run partnership when Shimron Hetmyer came in. Seeing that they got the score to 133/1 before being caught, Hetmyer continued on and kept building on his score of 50+.

Although Rovman Powell couldn’t do much across from him, the left-handed one-down batsman was still able to get towards 75 and ended up being the 4th wicket lost at 145 runs. Being at the 14.5 over mark, this is when many believed West Indies were in trouble and had another match where their middle-order failed them.

Knowing that Sherfane Rutherford had to face all the pressure, he did it with strength as the left-handed finisher created a massive 76-run combination with Romario Shepard. Rutherford finished his innings at 57 not-out, while smacking four massive sixes, and Shepard was able to add a couple of key boundaries on his end to get towards 17, while raising the score.

South Africa: An Absolute Disaster Class In Bowling Got Saved By Some Quality Spin

On the bowling side of things for this Proteas unit, their plan to attack with mostly pacers ended up not working and just caused even more problems. With their major fast-bowler, Kagiso Rabada, giving up nearly 9 runs an over, he was able to pick up one wicket, but that didn’t account for how many boundaries he was leaking. Giving a total of 35 in a full four overs, it created more panic for a unit that had Kwena Maphaka continue being very expensive in all his overs. Having an economy of 13 today and not finding the middle of the stumps at all, it is starting to become a constant problem that he will need to improve, alongside finding better timing with that slower ball.

For the third big-time piece in Anrich Nortje, who was playing his first match in a very well long time, this was one to forget as he gave up 59 runs in just 3 overs. Generally, someone who used to be known for his pace and accuracy, it no longer showed today as his inconsistencies have continued.

With Marco Jansen rounding out this attack, he also had a very expensive final over and ended up relying on the spinners to do more damage. Left-handed Keshav Maharaj was the only good option today as he took two wickets and just gave up 22 runs in his full work today, while Markram tried adding an impact towards the end despite not producing that same turn.

South Africa: The Finish To This Match Was Led By Top-Notch Openers

Seeing this South Africa batting performance today, it is pretty clear that this unit was carried by their top-order and led them far down the line. Captain Aiden Markram came out with an intent to attack and was able to deliver 15 runs on 12 deliveries, while hitting two combined boundaries. Someone who was looking to build of his last performance, where he scored a high total, this piece ended up getting removed after going for a 27-run partnership with Quinton De Kock.

As De Kock continued his excellent form and kept smacking the West Indies bowlers left and right, he was able to put together one of the best century innings seen in recent times with Ryan Rickleton on the other side.

A duo that scored 162 runs together, the left-handed opener was the next wicket after scoring 115 runs on 49 balls, while demolishing 10 sixes. Looking like he has gotten into perfect form right before the World Cup, his ability to hit on both sides of the pitch made it impossible for any bowler to attack the stumps.

Knowing that Rickleton hit another 50 on the other side, his innings ended at 77 not-out as he also combined for 12 total boundaries. Finishing it off, Dewald Brevis wasn’t able to produce much with the bat, but Jason Smith came in at the very end of this game and showed potential from the very first ball by hitting a wonderful four.

West Indies: The Bowling Nightmare Continues Before Their World Cup

As this West Indies bowling unit struggled to find any success once again, this will be a huge problem since they don’t have a set plan before the tournament. Looking at Matthew Forde, he was able to pick up one wicket, but also seemed very expensive after going for over 9 runs an over.

Their main pacer, Jayden Seals, continues struggling in this format as he wasn’t able to create any sort of wicket-taking threat and ended up having an economy of almost 19. Jason Holder is another player who couldn’t do much in his overs, and talking about spin, both Roston Chase, 40 runs allowed, and Akeal Hosein, had a tough time producing any turn or surprise element.
