South African cricket team would be eager to take revenge of ICC T20 WC 2024 final in the upcoming T20I series against India on 8th November. BCCI have named quite a bit second string squad but they have quality players present as well. In 2023, the 3 T20I match series was squared by 1-1 between India & South Africa as there’s a fierce rivalry. The rookie pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak has astonishingly got a call up to T20I side. Vijaykumar Vyshak played with RCB in the previous IPL editions.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav would be eyeing to continue the winning momentum after winning T20I series against Sri Lanka & Bangladesh. With the T20 WC 2026, 2 years away; India now has got a very good chance of testing their bench strength given the fact it’s a long 4 T20I match series. All eyes though will be on the flamboyant all-rounder Hardik Pandya who knows how to succeed in overseas condition both with bat & ball.

An India call up is what every cricketer aspires for- Vijaykumar Vyshak

Vijaykumar Vyshak was having an interaction with Times of India and he was quite delighted to be a part of Indian T20I squad. Vijaykumar also pointed out that he didn’t believe in himself to excel as a cricketer. Vijaykumar was quite happy while working along with Bharat Arun, the former fast bowling coach of India.

“I am speechless. An India call-up is what every cricketer aspires for. It’s a dream come true. For a long time, people called me fat and it never really bothered me. A few years ago, I looked at myself in the mirror and I didn’t see a cricketer. What I saw was an overweight youngster, who was struggling with his cricket. That day, I told myself, fitness is everything, work on it,” said Vijaykumar Vyshak.

“My action was all over the place. I couldn’t jump because of my weight. There were days when I wept to my parents. That’s when I went to work with Arun sir. I did three to four sessions with him, and it worked wonders for me. I keep going back to work with Arun sir,” he added.

Cricket South Africa’s Concerns

South Africa recently lost the 2nd T20I match against Ireland due to which the series was squared in Abu Dhabi (*Ireland’s home venue). Before that South Africa also lost T20I series against West Indies by 3-0. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding Proteas’ players participation; David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi, Keshav Maharaj didn’t play any T20I match since T20 WC 2024 despite making themselves available for CPL 2024.

Recently Tabraiz Shamsi, the left arm chinaman spinner refused a central contract and stated that he wants to explore new opportunities but made it very clear that he won’t miss a single match of South Africa which is a little bit concerning for Cricket South Africa (CSA). The board has their task cut out as it looks like players are not that focused on bilateral series given the next T20 WC is a little bit far ahead but we should not forget that a cricket team doesn’t play a lot of back to back T20I series.
