Former Aussie Opener and Head Coach Justin Langer feels Australia should stick to the traditional bouncy and pacy surfaces for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy instead of the flat tracks used during the last two instances of the Indian team touring Australia. Under Justin Langer’s coaching, Australia failed to win BGT 2018-19 as well as 2020-21 season and it won’t be wrong to say that Langer knows how India can land a counter attack punch against all circumstances of the match.

Having lost the series the previous two times at their home, the kangaroos will be looking to win it and regain their status of being invincible at home. The series opener will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 and the five-match tour will come to an end on January 7. Undoubtedly it will be a blockbuster Test series as Aussies would be keen to avoid a hat-trick of series defeats in Australia against India

It would be unforgivable to make the same mistake again- Langer

Writing in his Column for The Nightly, Justin Langer said that Australia should learn the lesson by producing more pace-friendly pitches which will trouble the visitors and nullify any advantage India may get. Langer explained,

“If Australia is organised and smart this summer, it will ensure that visitors see plenty of pace and bounce. History should remind them that doing India a favour by playing them on flat pitches proves counterproductive, an error and a lesson from the last two series. Australian curators were too kind the last two times around.

“The pitches became flat, and India capitalised. It would be unforgivable to make the same mistake again. Adapting to foreign conditions takes time and effort.”

The Indian tour conquered the Aussie soil for the second consecutive time during their last visit in 2020-21. Marking a remarkable comeback after bundling out for 36 runs in the first Test and going 0-1 down, turned things around to win the next test at MCG and salvaged an inspirational draw on the final day of the third test at SCG, and then went on to breach the fortress of Gabba chasing a mammoth target of 328 thereby a clinching a memorable series victory down under.

Not for a second am I encouraging anything other than great Australian pitches that produce pace, bounce- Justin Langer

The current Head Coach of the Lucknow Super Giants also opined that the Home side should take some notes of the recent test of India in Bengaluru and the Adelaide test 4 years ago on what pitches the curators should be preparing for the upcoming summer.

“Not for a second am I encouraging anything other than great Australian pitches that produce pace, bounce, and entertaining, winning outcomes in this part of the world. But if Bangalore last week and Adelaide four years ago are anything to go by, pitches that allow the ball to bounce and move will give Australia their best chance of beating India at home for the first time in three campaigns,”
