Lankan Premier League 2024 It’s time to celebrate with the champions of LPL 2024 who are none other than Jaffna Kings, they won the LPL fourth time and they won straight fourth in a row after registering a thumping win over Galle Marvels.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa stabilized Galle Marvels
It’s all or nothing for both teams as it’s a showdown and whoever wins the match doesn’t matter after all it’s cricket who wins. So in the final Jaffna Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. Galle Marvels had a slow start as they lost both openers quite early and felt like the match could go more towards Jaffna Kings. However, Tim Seifert who had a great tournament kept the runs alive for Galle Marvels but after scoring 47 he too lost his wicket. So Galle Marvels found themselves in a fuss and the road to hope was completely closed it seems but Bhanuka Rajapaksa rose to the occasion and scored a brilliant 82 runs which helped Galle Marvels to score a respectable total of 184 losing 6 wickets.
Jaffna Kings rolled their arms perfectly with the ball
So the Jaffna Kings had won the toss and elected to bowl first however they had a flying start dismissing both openers but soon Galle Marvels took charge with the bat and kept scoring runs still wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and bowlers kept line and length perfect and took wickets. Asitha Fernando was the highlight in bowling as he scalped 3 wickets while Jason Beherendorff picked 2 wickets. Jaffna Kings kept their plans very simple and so they were able to make it the day happening with the ball.
Rilee Rossouw gave a ‘Ton’ of happiness to Jaffna Kings
So the bowlers did their job well so to clinch the trophy batters have a big job to do. The target for Jaffna Kings was 185 but the start was pretty shocking as Pathum Nissanka got out on a golden duck and felt Jaffna Kings could get in trouble Rilee Rossouw didn’t give a chance to disappoint Jaffna Kings fans he came and stood tall till the end and so Kusal Mendis too supported him which made their job even easier and so at the end Jaffna Kings won the match by 9 wickets, seems like Jaffna Kings made the match one-side completely and dominated with the bat, Rilee Rossouw scored a century and it could be one of the best innings in LPL history. Kusal Mendis scored an impressive 72 runs but his contribution was even more important in this run chase it couldn’t happen because of him. No doubt Rilee Rossouw was the Man of the Match and also the Player of the Series, his contributions to making Jaffna Kings fourth-time champions will always be remembered.
Galle Marvels couldn’t make the day
The batters put a smile on their face but at the same time, bowlers disappointed them as they couldn’t defend the target and so they lost the match. Despite dismissing Pathum Nissanka on the very first ball but later Kusal Mendis and Rilee Rossouw took charge and kept firing Galle Marvel’s bowlers, their morale was down and so they almost surrendered at the end which cost them badly and so it was a very disappointing performance from Galle Marvels, but they also had a great tournament with bat and ball too but in final they couldn’t make their day happening.
