Lanka Premier League Jaffna Kings bounced back after a huge loss in their last match. Jaffna Kings registered an easy win against Colombo Strikers and kept themselves alive in the tournament.
Glenn Phillips stood for Colombo Strikers
Colombo Strikers were invited to bat first and they gave a solid start but suddenly Angelo Perera was retired hurt as everyone say show must go on batting was on a good roll and at the end of powerplay Colombo Strikers scored 65 runs. In middle over phase Colombo Strikers made game quite slow but runs were coming in good flow, as Jaffna Kings bowlers were calm but it was an alarming bell for Colombo Strikers that a storm will hit Colombo Strikers, and it happened at one time Colombo Strikers were 138/2 and suddenly they lost 4 wickets in the phase of 11 runs and found themselves in trouble but Glenn Phillips stood up and took team’s total to 188 which at one time looked up to 160. Glenn Phillips scored 58 runs.
Good Bowling by Jaffna Kings
Jaffna Kings bowlers gave their everything and they did their job well and restricting Colombo Strikers in middle over phase was the highlight of the match. Azmatullah Omarzai pikced 2 wickets and Asitha Fernando also picked 2 wickets while Shamsi, Fabian Allen and Pramod Madhushan picked 1 wicket and restricted to 188.
Rilee Rossouw stole the show
So the target for Jaffna Kings was 189 and they had a flop start as centurion Pathum Nissanka lost his wicket very early and even Kusal Mendis too. Later Rilee Rossouw and Avishka Fernando stabled the innings and made Jaffna Kings to the winning mark in this Rilee Rossouw scored an unbeaten 108 runs which was most impactful innings and Avishka Fernando also scored 58 runs. Their partnership took Jaffna Kings to the winning mark and they are alive in the tournament with this win as it was a crucial win for them.
Flop day for Colombo Strikers
After a steady batting Glenn Phillips hold it’s nerves and took team to 188, but bowlers failed to rose the occasion as Colombo Strikers felt that they were no where in the game and so they failed as a team which cost them badly and couldn’t defend 188. Colombo Strikers need to win remaining matches so that they can stay alive in the tournament.
