Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has come down hard on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after the five-time champions slumped to their fifth consecutive loss in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Kris Srikkanth, known for his candid commentary, didn’t hold back while expressing his frustration with the team’s lacklustre performance, especially after their emphatic win over Mumbai Indians at the start of the tournament.
CSK’s latest defeat came at the hands of the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who chased down their target with ease at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It marked not only CSK’s fifth straight loss—an unwanted first in their IPL history—but also their third consecutive home defeat this season, another unprecedented low for the franchise.
KKR embarrasses CSK at Chepauk in a thumping 8 wicket win over them
Chennai Super Kings have hit rock bottom after an embarrassing defeat against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk. The five-time champions have lost five matches in a row for the first time in the season as the return of MS Dhoni as captain couldn’t help them escape the hammering from Knight Riders.
The batting line-up continued to falter as they looked out of options at the moment with a forgettable performance on Friday night, where they scored 103/9 playing at home. The absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the order only made things worse, as CSK were forced to sacrifice Matheesha Pathirana to use Impact Player for Deepak Hooda when they faced a collapse against the KKR spin unit. CSK lost their third match at Chepauk this year, the first time in a season in their history
The poor batting displays continued for the Chennai Super Kings on Friday as they suffered their fifth straight loss in the six games in the Indian Premier League 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated CSK at their home ground in Chepauk, with 10 overs to spare. This is the first time in IPL history that MS Dhoni and co. have suffered three straight losses at the Chepauk Stadium. They linger in the bottom half of the points table, almost halfway through the stage.
After the CSK batting lineup only managed to score at a strike rate of 124.23, which is the worst among the 10 teams in the season so far, the former Indian captain and Chennai fan, Kris Srikkanth, has analyzed the team’s season so far and has called for a change.
Former Indian player Kris Srikkanth is furious and shocked at the performance of CSK vs KKR at Chepauk
1983 World Cup-winning star Kris Srikkanth didn’t hold back while criticising Chennai on social media and said the whole team is running on nostalgia. However, he offered out-of-the-box advice to them and told the think tank to go for an unsold player like Prithvi Shaw to change their fortunes, as Gaikwad has already been ruled out, and they can choose a replacement player for him.
“One of CSK’s worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test match. Whole XI feels like it’s running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try some unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it? even chaos is a strategy?” Kris Srikkanth wrote on X.
MS Dhoni was captaining the Super Kings for the first time in the match since IPL 2023. However, he got out for 1, trapped lbw by Sunil Narine.
After restricting CSK to 103/9 – this season’s lowest score, KKR didn’t find any difficulty chasing the paltry target. KKR cantered home in 10.1 overs, with opener Sunil Narine bludgeoning his way to a 18-ball 44 studded with two fours and five sixes.
Captain Ajinkya Rahane also played his part with a solid 20 not out off 17 balls, while Quinton de Kock, the other opener, contributed 23. Rinku Singh also remained not out on 15 off 12 balls. It was another underwhelming night for CSK’s big buy this season, R Ashwin, who leaked 30 runs in three overs and failed to claim any wickets. The Super Kings will next face the Lucknow Super Giants on April 14, Monday, in an away contest.
