BAN vs IRE: Bangladesh Seal Series With Emphatic 8-Wicket Win

Hosts Bangladesh sealed the 3-match T20I series 2-1 after losing the first match with an emphatic 8-wicket win in Chattogram. Bangladesh roared like a tiger and outplayed their opponents in all facets of the game to win the match with plenty of balls to spare and gained confidence going into the upcoming fixtures. Ireland won the toss and decided to bat first and after a promising start and powerplay, things fell away as they were bowled out for 117 in 19.5 overs with Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain taking 3 wickets apiece.

In reply, Bangladesh rode on an unbeaten 55 off 36 balls from Tanzid Hasan and an unbeaten 33 off 26 balls from Parvez Hossain Emon to get over the line by 8 wickets with 38 balls to spare. The Ireland bowlers tried hard but had too low a score to defend as they lost a golden opportunity to win the series after winning the first T20I they lost the next two games.

Mustafizur Rahman & Rishad Hossain’s 3-Wicket Hauls Dismantles Ireland.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, captain Paul Stirling and Tim Heatley Tector walked out to bat for Ireland while Mahedi Hasan had ball in hand for Bangladesh. The Irish openers got off to a flier with Paul Stirling being the dominant partner while Tim played himself in. The duo put on 38 inside 4 overs and looked good but Bangladesh broke through removing Tim for 17 off 10 balls with 2 fours and one six to his name with Shoriful Islam taking his wicket. Harry Tector came out to bat next.

Harry managed to hit a boundary but did not last long. He fell in the last over of powerplay as the Fizz Mustafizur Rahman got him for 5 off 6 balls with a boundary to his name as the innings started to go haywire from here. Lorcan Tucker came out to bat next. Ireland were 51/2 in 6 overs at the end of the powerplay. A wicket again fell at the start of the 7th over as Tucker fell for 1 off 5 balls to leave the team at 51/3. Curtis Campher came into bat next but had a struggled stay at the crease. Ireland were in a spot of bother and tried to rebuild proceedings.

But at the stroke of the Drinks Break, Campher fell to Rishad Hossain as he got his first wicket with the batter scoring 9 off 16 balls as Ireland had slipped from 51/2 in 6 overs to now 66/4 in 10 overs at the halfway stage of the first innings when we all paused for Drinks Break. George Dockrell walked out to bat next to join his skipper Paul Stirling. Stirling tried to keep the fight going from one end as wickets were falling but he too fell soon after.

Rishad had his second wicket to his name as Stirling was dismissed for 38 off 27 balls with 5 fours and one six to his name as Ireland now had lost half their side for 73 in 11.4 overs. Gareth Delany joined George Dockrell in the middle as Ireland now needed some partnership to get going again. They added 20 runs to build some foundation. Bangladesh tightened the screws and broke the stand in the 16th over as Delany fell for 10 off 12 balls. Mark Adair walked out to bat next.

Dockrell and Adair tried their best to build another partnership but it was not to be. They added 15 more runs before Adair fell for 8 off 9 balls with 1 four to his name as Mustafizur picked up his wicket. Matthew Humphreys walked out to bat next. Humphreys did not last long and fell in the same over as Fizz had two in the over. He fell for 1 off 2 balls. Craig Young came out to bat next.

In the 19th and penultimate over of the innings, George Dockrell fell for 19 off 23 balls as his resistance ended with 2 fours to his name. Shoriful Islam took his wicket. Ben White came out to bat to join Craig Young. White managed to get a boundary away but he fell in the second last ball of the innings as Saifuddin took his wicket. Ireland were bowled out for 117 in 19.5 overs with Craig Young remaining unbeaten on 2 off 3 balls. Just 2 extras given by Bangladesh bowlers and fielders.

A terrific outing with the ball for Bangladesh bowlers. Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/11 in 3 overs. He was ably supported by Rishad Hossain who finished with 3/21 in 4 overs. Shoriful Islam also bowled well for his 2/21 in 3 overs. Mahedi Hasan bowled well for his 1/24 in 4 overs while Mohammad Saifuddin got himself a wicket and finished with 1/31 in 3.5 overs. Saif Hassan bowled 2 overs for 8 runs. This meant that Bangladesh needed 118 runs off 20 overs to win the match and series 2-1.

Tanzid Hasan’s unbeaten 55 takes Bangladesh over the line with 38 balls left.

Chasing 118 for the win, Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan walked out to bat for Bangladesh while Matthew Humphreys had ball in hand for Ireland. The duo started the run chase in breezy fashion much like Ireland did in their innings. Tanzid was the aggressor of the two while Saif played himself in and played some good strokes as well. The duo in the chase of 118 got off to a racing start putting on 38 inside 4 overs before Saif’s innings was cut short on 19 off 14 balls with 2 fours and a maximum to his name as Craig Young picked up his wicket.

The captain Litton Das walked out to bat next. Litton managed to hit a boundary away but he did not last long as he fell for 7 off 6 balls with a boundary to his name as the hosts was reduced to 46/2 in 5.2 overs inside the powerplay when Parvez Hossain Emon came and joined Tanzid in the middle. After 6 overs, Bangladesh were 48/2 behind where Ireland were no doubt, but Bangladesh knew what they were chasing and paced the innings accordingly.

The duo of Tanzid and Emon paced their innings really well and gave Ireland no chance of even a sniff. The duo showed the Irish how to play the middle overs and they did that with flying colours. Ireland were now left clueless in the field as Bangladesh raced to 79/2 in 10 overs in the halfway stage of the chase when we all paused for the final Drinks Break of the match.

The carnage continued after the Break as Bangladesh were in a hurry in nailing the chase down. Tanzid switched gears and Emon played his part as well. It did not matter who bowled, they were all taken to the cleaners as the 100 came up for Bangladesh in 12 overs and within touching distance of a win. Tanzid reached his fifty in 35 balls with the maximum as he had sealed the game over here. The winning runs came off the bat of Emon as he hit a boundary off Young to end the contest once and for all.

Tanzid remained unbeaten on 55 off 36 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes to his name while Emon remained unbeaten on 33 off 26 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes to his name as Bangladesh got over the line in 13.4 overs with 5 extras given by the fielding side.

Craig Young got a wicket and finished with 1/30 in 2.4 overs. Harry Tector finished with 1/17 in 3 overs. The rest of the bowlers went wicketless. Matthew Humphreys bowled 2 overs for 15 runs. Mark Adair’s only over went for 11 runs. Gareth Delany went for 25 in 2 overs. Ben White bowled decently for his 0/21 in 3 overs. So, Bangladesh win by 8 wickets to seal the series 2-1. Tanzid Hasan was awarded the Player of the Match Award. Mahedi Hasan was awarded the Player of the Series.

So, the series is done and dusted with Bangladesh winning the T20I series 2-1 after they thrashed Ireland 2-0 in Tests which were not under the WTC 2025-27 cycle.
