BGT 2024-25 : “Whoever Pushed Rishabh Pant To Change His Playing Style Must Be Axed”- Adam Gilchrist Questions The Management Who Changed The Batting Style Of Dashing Batter

After India’s loss in Australia, Rishabh Pant’s defensive strategy during the opening innings of the fifth Test in Sydney has drawn a lot of criticism. India lost the series by a score of 3-1 in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, falling short of winning the trophy after nearly ten years.

With 255 runs in nine innings, Rishabh Pant finished as his team’s fourth-highest run-scorer; nonetheless, the latest series was very different from the incredible run-scoring performance he had in 2020–21. There is no denying that Rishabh Pant scores the most runs with his inherently aggressive style, despite the wicket-keeper-batter blowing hot and cold with the bat during the series and getting scolded by former players like Sunil Gavaskar after getting out playing daring smashes in Melbourne.

After all the blows to his body in the first innings, his greatest score of 61 in the last innings in Sydney seemed promising. However, Pant received brickbats for his careless behaviour during the Melbourne Test. Rishabh Pant took some excellent catches behind the wickets.

“Whoever Pushed Rishabh Pant To Play Traditionally Must Be Removed” – Gilchrist

While former Australia batsman-wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist criticized India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir for Rishabh Pant’s style of play, former England captain Michael Vaughan mocked Gambhir’s choice in a subtle way.

“I believe he could have been the one advising Rishabh Pant to calm things down during that first innings in Sydney. So, for you, just call for his head,” said Gilchrist.

“Whoever pushed him [Rishabh Pant] to play traditionally in the first innings at the SCG should be removed from the Indian management group,” added Gilchrist.

Gautam Gambhir Under Pressure Following Back To Back Series Defeat.

After the team’s poor results in their most recent series, former England spinner Monty Panesar has recommended that Gautam Gambhir resign as India’s Test cricket head coach.

“I believe that’s a solid suggestion. The workload might be too demanding for Gambhir at this point, especially since he’s still relatively new to coaching. For some of the senior players, it might be challenging to adjust, as they may think, ‘I played alongside him not long ago, and now he’s directing us on how to approach the game.’ That shift can be tough for both sides,” he was quoted as saying by TOI.
“Moreover, his batting performance in both Australia and England has been below average. Gambhir averages just 23 in Australia, and his performance in England hasn’t been much better. He struggled with the moving ball in both conditions”
“I believe India needs a legendary cricketer who has excelled in all conditions to take on the coaching role, as that kind of experience naturally earns respect. The selectors might be questioning whether Gambhir is fully committed to coaching, or if it would be better for him to focus on ODIs and T20s. Perhaps someone like VVS Laxman could be brought in as the Test coach, or even as a batting coach to assist Gambhir,” said Panesar.
