Throughout the series, Scott Boland was outstanding, frustrating Indian hitters with his hard-to-handle, unrelenting line and lengths. Scott Boland‘s high point was his taking out top batsman Virat Kohli four times during the series. Throughout this series, he became the Indian team’s greatest nemesis. He claimed 21 wickets in three games at an average of 13.19, with his best numbers being 6/45. In the fifth Test, he claimed ten wickets. In the series, he took the third-most wickets.
The arrival of pacer Scott Boland in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy changed the outcome for the Australians, according to former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin. He said the hosts would have lost without him in the team because of his “major factor” deliveries against Indian left-handers. On his YouTube channel, Ashwin was giving a speech.
The presence of the very skilled trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood has prevented Scott Boland from making many international appearances after making his Test debut for Australia in 2021. He has claimed 56 wickets at an average of 17.66 with top stats of 6/7 in 13 Test matches. In addition, he has participated in 14 ODIs and three T20Is, taking 19 wickets overall. In 2016, Boland made his debut for his country against India.
“Australia Was Lucky That Scott Boland Came To The Team”- Ravi Ashwin
Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Ashwin said,
“All said that Pat Cummins had a great series, but he struggled against left-handers. Australia was lucky that Scott Boland came into the team. If Boland had not played, India would have won the series. No offence to Josh Hazlewood; he is a fantastic bowler. But if they had continued with the same attack, we would have won. Boland’s round-the-wicket deliveries to our left-handers were a major factor.”
Ashwin also said that the series was “class and outstanding” from a cricketing point of view.
“The series was on the line till the last session in Sydney. What a great series it was. As pure cricket, it was a class series, outstanding. Australia won the series after a tough fight till the last day. Usman Khawaja said after the series, ‘I was Bumrah’ed ‘ That shows how intense the series was,” said Ashwin.
Scott Boland’s Test average is the highest among bowlers with at least 50 wickets in the format since the first World War I and the eighth-best overall in Test history. According to Wisden, George Lohmann of England has the highest bowling average ever, taking 112 wickets at an average of 10.75 in 18 Test matches between 1886 and 1896.
Only Turner, who has taken 101 wickets in 17 Test matches, has a higher bowling average of 16.53 among Australians with 50 Test scalps. Axar Patel has the next-best bowling average among his contemporary counterparts with 50 Test wickets, followed by Kyle Jamieson and Jasprit Bumrah.
