SL vs IND: What’s Wrong With Sri Lanka Cricket?

Lack of Consistency

The top order of Sri Lanka in a 3rd ODI against India includes Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, and Charith Asalanka, none of the players managed to convert their promising starts into a big score and thus, there was a failure of the middle order.

Poor Leadership

Sri Lanka Captain Charith Asalanka has been on the e receiving end concerning his strategies especially in the 3rd T20I where he opted for short and wide, giving Indian batsmen a bouncer-free feast.

Lack of Talent Development

Cricket is very popular in Sri Lanka and there is a vast talent base, but there has been a conductive failure to properly groom and boost the youth talent.

Over-Reliance on Senior Players

Sri Lanka has depended too much on senior players such as Ramesh Mendis who is in a very poor form at the moment and Wanindu Hasaranga, whose bowling has been very volatile.

Lack of Adaptability

For this situation, to correct the circumstance described above and make the squad change for the better, the team has to tackle problems that have been described above and search for the strategy on how to construct constant, cohesive and rich team which are comparable with world’s league.
