SL vs IND: Sanath Jayasuriya Appointed Sri Lanka’s Interim Head Coach

Sri Lanka had a nightmare after having a disaster in T20 World Cup 2024. Newly appointed skipper Wanindu Hasaranga wasn’t up to the mark and so the team failed to perform.

None of the player showed their form as they had came quite early in USA for practice but they didn’t got a chance to play warm-up matches and so they got knocked out of the tournament with only one win.

Sanath Jayasuriya to lead Sri Lanka with new role

Sri Lanka was facing a bad patch as they were knocked out of the World Cup 2023 later some controversy occurred related to board committee then ICC banned the membership of Sri Lanka Cricket but after few months they removed the ban but the flaws continued with them, as they also knocked out of the tournament of T20 World Cup 2024 too and then  World Cup got concluded head coach Chris Silverwood stepped down as head coach due to family promises.

Now Sri Lanka cricket decided to appoint former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya as interim head coach till September. As Sanath Jayasuriya has plenty of experience and everyone knows his was a prolific batter in his time. To coach a new Sri Lankan team which is quiet a task as he don’t have much time to interact with them but he can shape the team well as India will be touring to Sri Lanka for 3 ODIS and 3 T20IS which will commence from 27 July. So, till the new coach arrives Sanath Jayasuriya need to make a core team and should make them capable enough that they could give tough fight to their opponents. Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga should implement more strategies and talks between skipper and coach should be quiet more then only the team spirit would be seen. Dhananjay De Silva said :

 “Sanath with his wealth of international cricketing experience is well positioned to guide the national team, until we find a permanent solution.”
Sanath Jayasuriya would also get a chance to strengthen his ability and have a chance to prove himself as a good head coach.
