India won the T20 World Cup, India celebrated the victory, and the winning parade was also conducted. But at the same time Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their T20I retirements, and also Rahul Dravid ended his tenure after winning the World Cup.

Now the new era will begin as Gautam Gambhir is appointed as the new head coach and his first assignment is the Sri Lanka tour for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

Gautam Gambhir feels Virat and Rohit will play in World Cup 2027

Gautam Gambhir addressed to media on Monday since his appointment as head coach of Indian team with the chief selector Ajit Agarkar ahead of the Sri Lanka tour. Many questions were asked to Gautam Gambhir but one question was highlighted will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli be part of the World Cup 2027? While replying Gautam Gambhir said:

“I think they’ve shown what they can deliver on the big stage whether it was the T20 World Cup and in the 50 over World Cup as well. I think both those guys have got a lot of cricket left in them and more importantly with the Champions Trophy and a big tour of Australia, obviously they would be motivated enough, and then hopefully they can keep their fitness till the 2027 World Cup as well,” Gambhir said in a press conference in Mumbai.

“This is a very personal decision. I can’t say how much cricket is left in them. Ultimately it’s up to them as well. It’s up to the players how much can they contribute to the team’s success because ultimately it’s the team that is important. But looking at what Virat and Rohit can deliver, I think they still have a lot of cricket and they’re still world-class players and any team would want to have both of them for as long as possible,” he added.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli won the T20 World Cup but their cabinet should be filled with yet another trophy and that is the ODI World Cup 2027 which will be held in South Africa. Before that Champions Trophy will be held in 2025 but BCCI has confirmed that they won’t be sending their team to Pakistan instead they have asked to play in a hybrid model. Under Gautam Gambhir how team will evolve and what new plans will be made by Gautam Gambhir let’s see.
