Shubman Gill revealed the painful reason why he didnt came to field vs RR in IPL 2025

Shubman Gill revealed the reason why he did not come out to field as Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by eight wickets in their 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday. Rashid Khan took over the reign of the side as stand-in skipper and oversaw Vaibhav Suryavanshi break multiple records to help RR beat GT.

At the post-match presentation, when Gill was asked about him missing the second innings, he said:

“Felt a little back spasm in my back and we have a game couple of days after this, so the physio didn’t want to take any chance.”

Shubman Gill smacked four sixes and five fours to make 84 off 50 balls and added 93 runs for the opening wicket with Sai Sudharsan to set up a strong base. Jos Buttler was severe on his former franchise, clobbering four sixes and three fours to make 50 not out off 26 balls to take Gujarat Titans to a formidable total of 209/4 from their 20 overs.

But 14-year-old Suryavanshi smashed a hundred in just 35 balls to run away with the contest, hitting 101 off 38 balls with as many as 11 sixes and seven fours.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 40-ball 70 not out in the chase. Chasing a stiff target of 210 on a friendly wicket, Rajasthan Royals went past the winning line, making 212 for two in 15.5 overs.

“They took the game away from us in the powerplay, and credit to them for that,” Shubman Gill said at the end of the match.

“There were a couple of things we could have done better, but it’s very easy to sit out and say those things. Some chances came early our way, couldn’t grab those, but in hindsight I think there are some areas we need to work on as a team.”

“What happened in the previous match – win or lose – we take one game as it is. The next match is at Ahmedabad, we have had a good run there, hopefully we’ll be able to continue that. (On Vaibhav Suryavanshi) His hitting was tremendous, and he made full use of his day,” Shubman Gill added.

Meanwhile, with his knock against Rajasthan Royals, Shubman Gill also rose to the seventh spot in the list of IPL 2025 Orange Cap with 389 runs from nine games including four half-centuries. After a eight-wicket loss against Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans will next host Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 2.
