CSK faced their 4th consecutive loss in this tournament. There were a few positives in this match, but that couldn’t help them to win. There are several other areas in which they need to work. CSK, while chasing 220 runs, lost the match by 18 runs which is not a small margin given the surface was a belter one.
Poor fielding
CSK in the past is known to be one of the best fielding sides of the league with legends like Dwayne Bravo, Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja on their side. But this year, they are horrible in the field.
They have dropped 12 catches this season so far, which is the most by any team. They dropped catches for crucial batters, and those players changed the game completely. Prime Examples are Rajat Patidar in the 2nd game and Priyansh Arya yesterday.
Priyansh Arya was dropped at 4 runs by Khaleel Ahmed, he went on to score a century. CSK needs to work on improving their fielding standards and placing the best fielders in the right spots to take catches.
Lack of Power Hitters
CSK is struggling to hit sixes this year. Especially in the powerplay, where you need to maximize and set the tone for the middle order, CSK has hit just 3 sixes in 5 matches so far. Yesterday, the first six came from Shivam Dube in the 10th over.
They have very few names like Dhoni, Dube to hit sixes in the end. The top order and middle order batters should improve their six-hitting skills to support their teammates and accelerate the innings.
Poor bowling strategies
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bowling rotation was not on par yesterday. He was struggling with that since the start of the tournament. Ashwin was attacked every time when he came to bowl in the powerplay, but still Ruturaj is trusting him there. Noor Ahmad has been your best bowler so far, but he hasn’t completed his quota of 4 overs for the last 2 matches.
Ravindra Jadeja bowled brilliantly by just giving 18 runs in his 3 overs, but Ashwin was given the 4th over, and he got bashed in that over. When Spin is your strength and you have invested heavily in them, you’ve got to back your spinners and give them 12 overs.
Mukesh Choudhary is a similar type of bowler to Khaleel Ahmed. Anshul Kamboj can be preferred over him.
CSK has to figure out their loopholes soon before it’s too late in the tournament as already losing their 4th game out of 5 is an alarming sign.
