Michael Vaughan has expressed great admiration for Shoaib Bashir‘s bowling performance in the recently concluded Ranchi Test of the England-India five-match series. In only his second Test appearance, Shoaib Bashir showcased exceptional bowling skills in the fourth match of the series, claiming eight wickets, including a five-wicket haul in India’s first innings. Michael Vaughan praised the young talent, foreseeing a promising future for him and even likening him to the renowned Ravichandran Ashwin.
Celebrating another world-class superstar that we’ve unearthed- Michael Vaughan on Shoaib Bashir
Speaking on Club Prairie Fire’s YouTube channel, the former England captain had high praise for the 20-year-old off-spinner. He said,
“It’s been a fantastic week for English cricket. One of the great weeks, celebrating another world-class superstar that we’ve unearthed, Shoaib Bashir. That’s what we’re celebrating. Second Test match, eight wickets, he’s the new Ravi Ashwin, and we’ve unearthed him. So, we’re celebrating a new superstar in English cricket,”
Despite Shoaib Bashir’s impressive bowling performance, England suffered a five-wicket defeat in Ranchi, failing to defend a 192-run target in the fourth innings. India secured a series victory, taking an unassailable 3-1 lead with one match left to play.
We don’t play to win them, we play to just bring entertainment, bring joy, and unearth new talent- Michael Vaughan
Even though England faced defeat in the five-match Test series against India, Michael Vaughan believes that Ben Stokes and his team have been the superior side throughout the tour. English players and their made-up conclusions are always a great combo.
Vaughan highlighted England’s fresh strategy in red-ball cricket, emphasizing a shift towards prioritizing fan entertainment and discovering emerging talents over solely focusing on winning series. He elaborated,
“I think it’s going to be a fresh one in Dharamsala, so I expect England to win. They’ve been the better team in the series, as they were in the Ashes. If you go session by session, England have looked like a better team. I’m saying looked like a better team, but we don’t play series now to win them. I think people have got to understand that the game of cricket has changed in the UK. We don’t play to win them, we play to just bring entertainment, bring joy, and unearth new talent,”
The fifth and final Test match between India and England is scheduled to take place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, starting on March 7 and concluding on March 11.
