James Anderson attributed Test cricket as one of the reasons for the kind of person he is. He backed his statement by referring to Test cricket teaching him lessons over the years and building his strength significantly in various arenas. Moreover, James also mentioned that the sense of fulfillment that one gets from working hard during a day cricket match is unmatched by anything else in the game. Talking to reporters on Monday at Lord’s, James Anderson said,

”Test cricket is literally the reason that I am the person that I am. It has taught me so many lessons through the years, built my resilience to a lot of things. I think the fulfilment you get from putting in a shift in a day’s cricket is different to anything else you can do in the game.”

Furthermore, James Anderson also mentioned that he is aware of the T20 cricket serving him more money. However, he further stated that he would not get the same kind of delight and satisfaction from getting wickets taken on the boundary compared to giving a batsman a working over. James Anderson also advised the new-generation cricketers to relish Test cricket rather than chasing the dollars. He said,

“I know you can earn a lot of money from bowling four overs (in T20 cricket), but for me personally, I would never get the same sort of joy or fulfilment from taking wickets that are caught on the boundary compared to really giving a batter a working-over and figure someone out.” He further added,

“I just hope there are enough kids and young professionals out there who still want that to be the case, rather than going chasing the dollar.” While accepting his career had to “end at some point”

Anderson is playing his last Test match starting on Wednesday at Lords. Moreover, this will be the 188th Test match of his career. Till now, no fast bowler has claimed 700 wickets in Test cricket other than the Lancashire paceman. Anderson shortened his white-ball cricket career in order to prolong his Test career. After spinners Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka and Shane Watson from Australia, he is now the third on the all-time list of wicket-tackers.
