According to Avesh Khan, Shubman Gill is a bowlers’ captain because he allows them the necessary leeway and makes his own plans when needed. In the current Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe, the right-arm seamer acknowledged that the Indian captain had assisted him in taking a few wickets.
Wednesday, July 10, saw Gill top score with a 49-ball 66 as India set Zimbabwe a 183-run goal in the third Twenty20 international in Harare. The visitors held Sikandar Raza and company to 159/6 after Avesh scored 2/39 in four overs, giving them a 23-run victory and a 2-1 lead in the five-match series
Avesh Khan plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League and Madhya Pradesh in the domestic circuit. His outstanding performance in the IPL and in the domestic circuit has earned him his place in the Indian Cricket Team.
Avesh Khan On Gill’s Captaincy
Avesh Khan pointed out that he feels Shubman Gill is a bowler’s captain as he helped Avesh pick 1-2 wickets. He said:
“Shubman Gill is a bowlers’ captain. He gives a lot of freedom to the bowlers. He gives them a chance to set their own fields. He always backs you if you are executing your plans,” he responded.
“If things go slightly awry and you get hit, he brings his own plan and tells you what needs to be done. That always helps a lot. He has contributed to me getting one or two wickets,” Avesh added
Avesh Khan when asked how he feels about bowling in different times in the game.
“Whenever I talk to the captain, I tell him that I have no preferences about when to bowl, that he can make me bowl anytime and I am always ready. I always bowl with the attitude to pick up wickets for the team,” he replied
After three T20Is, Avesh has taken six wickets at an economy rate of 7.54. During the Men in Blue’s 100-run victory in the second game, he had his best performance of 3/15.
Ravi Bishnoi’s Exceptional Catch
Avesh Khan was questioned more about Bishnoi’s catch off his bowling in the same interview.
“It was an excellent catch. He always fields well. You would have seen in the IPL and international cricket that he always takes such catches. He always works a lot on his fielding,” he replied. “He is extremely hard-working when it comes to fielding. He bats and bowls in any case but he wants to take extraordinary catches as a fielder and he showed that by doing it,” the Madhya Pradesh seamer added
Brian Bennett sliced the ball sharply, and Bishnoi perfectly timed his jump to grasp the catch with both hands at that precise moment. After dismissing Wessly Madhevere with his opening ball, Avesh secured his second wicket of the match.
