Hundred 2025: Tom Moores’ Explosive 50 Takes Trent Rockets Over The Line Against Southern Brave

Wicket-keeper batter Tom Moores played a blinder as his 55 off 30 balls led Trent Rockets to a 4-wicket win with 4 balls to spare at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Tom Moores played a blinder on a difficult pitch coming in at 6 at the fall of the 4th wicket. Southern Brave batting first managed 140/4 thanks to Leus de Plooy’s half-century and some handy contributions down the order while Marcus Stoinis picked up 2 wickets.

Chasing 141 for the win, Tom Banton set things up at the top with his 49 off 38 balls but he kept losing partners before Tom Moores came and scored a breath-taking 55 off 30 balls to take the game away from Brave. Both batters got out towards the end before Marcus Stoinis hit the winning runs as the hosts got over the line with 4 wickets and 4 balls to spare.

Leus du Plooy’s half-century takes Southern Brave to 140/4

Put into bat first, Leus du Plooy came out to open the batting with captain James Vince as David Willey had ball in hand for Trent Rockets. Vince managed to get a streaky boundary away off Willey to get himself going. Callum Parkinson came onto bowl the next set as du Plooy got a boundary away to get himself going as well. Willey struck first blood for his team as he dismissed Vince for 7 off 7 balls with a boundary to his name.

Willey changed his pace bowling a slower length ball on the middle stump and deviated away from pitching. Vince did not move his feet one bit and tried to poke through the off-side and missed the ball on the outside edge and the ball hit the top of the middle and off-stump. Jason Roy came into bat next. Joe Root almost pulled off a stunner at backward point but could not hold on as Roy got a reprieve.

Parkinson bowled the final set of powerplay and bowled a miserly set as Southern Brave after 25 balls of powerplay were 18/1. Calvin Harrison came into the attack post the powerplay. Jason Roy hit him for a boundary before du Plooy hit him for a boundary as well. Rehan Ahmed was introduced next and was greeted with a boundary from Jason Roy. Roy survived a stumping chance as Moores fumbled off Rehan. Marcus Stoinis was greeted into the attack with a boundary from Jason Roy.

Du Plooy then launched Parkinson over square leg for the maximum. The 50 came up for Southern Brave in 43 balls. Lockie Ferguson came into the attack and was greeted with a maximum from du Plooy as he looked in the zone. du Plooy hit another boundary off Ferguson. After 50 balls, at the halfway stage of the innings Southern Brave were 63/1. Soon, the 50-run stand came up between the duo off 37 balls. Marcus Stoinis broke the budding partnership getting rid of Jason Roy for 23 off 23 balls with 3 boundaries to his name.

Stoinis bowled a good length pitching around off-stump and jagging back ever so slightly from over the wicket. Roy didn’t move his feet and looked to swing hard with an angled bat on the up and left a big gap between bat and pad. He missed on the inside edge and saw the ball hit the top of the off-stump. James Coles came out to bat next and got off the mark.

Du Plooy the launched Harrison for the maximum by nailing the reverse sweep. Soon, du Plooy got to his fifty off 32 balls with a maximum off Parkinson. Du Plooy didn’t stop there as he hit another boundary off Parkinson. But the bowler had the last laugh getting rid of du Plooy for 55 off 34 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes to his name. The bowler bowled it full on the stumps, du Plooy sat down on one knee and went for another sweep and didn’t quite get it off the middle of the bat and hit it flat to deep backward square leg. Ferguson was close to the boundary rope and managed to maintain his balance after taking a good catch over his head. Michael Bracewell came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.

Marcus Stoinis then dropped a sitter at long-on as Bracewell got a reprieve off Rehan Ahmed’s bowling. Coles managed to get a boundary away off Rehan as the 100 came up for Southern Brave after 75 balls. Brave after 75 balls were 101/3. Lockie Ferguson bowled a decent set giving away 2 runs. Bracewell hit Willey for a boundary but there was a scary incident that took place where Adam Hose slipped and dislocated his knee which caused a stoppage in play as broadcasters decided not to show the replay of that incident. Bracewell once again hit a boundary off Willey once play resumed after 10-15 minutes.

Ferguson bowled a decent set keeping the runs down. Bracewell then hit Stoinis for a boundary before Bracewell was dropped again this time by Willey at long-off. But Stoinis eventually got his man dismissing Bracewell for 28 off 16 balls with 3 fours to his name. Stoinis bowled it short and outside off, Bracewell looked to pull and got a top edge that looped straight to short extra cover. Laurie Evans came out to bat next.

Coles then hit Lockie Ferguson for two consecutive boundaries in the final set as Southern Brave ended with 140/4 in 100 balls. James Coles’ unbeaten 25 off 18 balls had 3 boundaries to his name while Evans was unbeaten on 1 off 2 balls. Just one extra given by the fielding side.

Marcus Stoinis was the pick of the bowlers for Trent Rockets with figures of 2/18 in 15 balls. David Willey bowled well for his 1/20 in 20 balls. Callum Parkinson picked up 1/29 in 20 balls. Calvin Harrison went for 19 in 10 balls while Rehan Ahmed went for 21 in 15 balls. Lockie Ferguson gave away 33 runs in 20 balls. It meant Trent Rockets needed 141 to win off 100 balls.

Chasing 141 for the win, Tom Banton and Joe Root walked out to bat for Trent Rockets while James Coles had ball in hand for Southern Brave. Banton made his intentions clear as he got off the mark and hit consecutive boundaries off Coles to set the tone. Banton wasn’t done there as he launched a maximum off Coles off a reverse sweep over backward point. Jofra Archer came onto bowl next and bowled a decent set.

Jordan Thompson came into the attack next and was hit by Joe Root for his first boundary. But Thompson hit back getting rid of Root for 6 off 4 balls with a boundary to his name. Thompson bowled full on the stumps which was there to be hit. Joe Root flicked it to Leus du Plooy at a comfortable height and he made no mistake. Rehan Ahmed walked out to bat next. Tymal Mills came onto bowl next.

Rehan welcomed Mills by hitting him for consecutive boundaries to stay ahead of the run rate. Tom Banton then hit Archer for a boundary through square leg while Rehan got into the act as well hitting Archer for a boundary through midwicket. After 25 balls of powerplay, Trent Rockets were 41/1. Danny Briggs came into the attack post the powerplay as Banton hit him for a maximum over long-off. Mills got the breakthrough getting rid of Rehan Ahmed for 13 off 12 balls with 3 boundaries to his name.

Mills bowled a good length on the middle stump with mid-on and mid-off inside the circle. Rehan tried to swing through the line and held the shape despite miscuing it straight over the bowler’s head. Jason Roy immediately ran backwards watched the ball over his right shoulder to put a big dive in the deep to take a stunner. Max Holden came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway with a boundary. Briggs got rid of Holden for 6 off 4 balls with a boundary to his name.

Briggs bowled it full on the stumps, Holden cleared his front leg after getting down on a knee for a big slog sweep. He swung really hard and got a top edge that ballooned to short third man as Archer took the catch easily. David Willey came out to bat next and got off the mark. Michael Bracewell then got rid of David Willey for 1 off 3 balls. Bowling from around the wicket, he bowled a loopy off-break pitching on a full length on the middle stump line, Willey was forward for a drive but the ball stopped on him a bit as he was early on the drive. He hit it aerially and straight to Vince at short extra cover. Tom Moores came out to bat next and got off the mark.

Moores then launched Bracewell for the maximum over midwicket as Trent Rockets reached 72/4 in 50 balls at the halfway stage of the chase. They needed 69 more off 50 balls. Banton continued his merry ways as he hit Coles for a boundary before Moores launched him over long-on for the maximum. Thompson bowled a tight set. But Bracewell was in for some punishment as Moores hit him for a maximum and followed that up with a boundary as well. The 100 came up for Trent Rockets after 67 balls. Moores was on a roll as he hit Archer for a boundary.

Moores then launched Tymal Mills for the maximum while Banton continued his merry ways as well. Trent Rockets after 75 balls were 116/4 requiring 25 runs off 25 balls. Moores was running away with the contest as he hit Briggs for another maximum over deep midwicket. He didn’t stop there hitting Briggs for another boundary. Moores survived a caught behind appeal as the fielding side burnt a review against him.

Moores soon brought up his fifty off 27 balls with a brace off Archer. Moores then hit Thompson for a boundary as they were getting close to the win. But Thompson hit back getting rid of Moores for 55 off 30 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes to his name. Thompson bowled a full toss at the off-stump. Moores tried to go over mid-off but hit it straight at his chest. James Vince was there and took an easy catch. Marcus Stoinis came out to bat next.

Tymal Mills then got rid of the other set batter in Tom Banton for 49 off 38 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes to his name. Mills bowled a length delivery around off-stump. Banton hung his bat in front of the pads but got a thin outside edge and the keeper took a regulation catch. It was also the 50th wicket in the Hundred for Tymal Mills. Calvin Harrison came to the crease next and got off the mark soon.

The winning runs came off the blade of Marcus Stoinis as he finished things off in style hitting Briggs over long-on as Rockets got over the line with 4 wickets and 4 balls to spare. Stoinis was unbeaten on 7 off 2 balls with a maximum to his name while Harrison was unbeaten on 2 off 3 balls. 6 extras given by the fielding side.

Jordan Thompson picked up 2/17 in 15 balls. Tymal Mills picked up 2/28 in 20 balls. Danny Briggs finished with 1/28 off 16 balls while Michael Bracewell finished with 1/22 in 15 balls. James Coles went for 27 in 10 balls while Jofra Archer was wicketless in his 20 runs off 20 balls. So, Rockets won by 4 wickets and Tom Moores was awarded the Player of the Match Award.

Trent Rockets are now in 3rd place with 12 points from 4 games while Southern Brave are in 4th with 8 points from 4 games.

What Lies Ahead

Super Sunday will have a double header coming our way as Manchester Originals are hosting Northern Superchargers at 7PM IST at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. This will be followed by Birmingham Phoenix hosting London Spirit at 10:30PM IST in Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Double the action, double the drama as the Hundred 2025 has reached its halfway stage as teams will be jostling for positions in the points table in the coming days which will make it exciting.
