Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the new head coach of team India after their recent T20 World Cup win in West Indies. India won an ICC tournament after 13 long years under the leadership of Captain Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid. After losing the 2023 ODI World Cup finals, Rahul Dravid was set to leave but decided to stay until the T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of the Indian squad, and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar spoke to the media in a press conference prior to the team’s travel to Sri Lanka, discussing their strategies for countering India’s pace attack. The absence of India’s star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, from their forthcoming tour is one of the most noteworthy ones.

Despite being a vital member of India’s bowling line in all three forms, the 30-year-old bowler was left off of the ODI and T20I squads that will play Sri Lanka later this month.

Gautam Gambhir On Workload Management For Everyone

Gautam Gambhir as a coach feels workload management is crucial for all players and not only fast bowlers. He thing if workload is managed properly then players can perform at their best.

“I’ve said it before workload management for someone like Jasprit Bumrah is important. But for batters, if they can play consistently and are in good form, they might as well play all the games,” Gambhir commented.

“With Rohit and Virat not playing T20 cricket, they only have two formats to focus on, so I’m sure they will be available for most of the games,” Gautam Gambhir added.

Gambhir emphasizes the significance of workload management for fast bowlers, acknowledging the physical toll that they must bear.

“For Jasprit Bumrah, who is a rare type of bowler, it’s our responsibility to keep him fresh for the most important games. Workload management is crucial not only for Jasprit Bumrah but for most fast bowlers,” he concluded.

India will embark on a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, starting with a three-match T20I series and include a three-match ODI series. Palekelle will host the 20-over matches, while Colombo will host the 50-over matches. Gambhir’s first task as the team’s head coach will be the tour, and he will want to start things off big.
