David Warner is no longer in a run for the Champions Trophy 2025 to be hosted in Pakistan. Australia national selector George Bailey confirmed Warner’s absence from the ICC Champions Trophy next year.
David Warner announced his retirement from internationals in all formats of cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, the Australian destructive opening batter had made his doors open for the selections of the Upcoming ICC event. Warner was last seen playing for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024 against India. Australia couldn’t qualify for the semifinals in the T20 World Cup 2024. Australia had an unpleasant season in the 2024 T20 World Cup. They faced defeat by Afghanistan, making their chances fewer to qualify for the semis.
David Warner Not Considered For Champions Trophy 2025
George Bailey confirmed the news of David Warner not being considered for the Champions Trophy 2025. The Australian national selector congratulated David Warner on his prolonged career in the internationals considering his retirement. Bailey stated David Warned served his nation with utmost sincerity during his career. Previously, David Warner hinted at a comeback after retirement in his social media account. However, after George Bailey’s statement, his comeback desired by his fans is impossible. George Bailey was quoted by ESPNcricinfo saying,
“Our understanding is that David is retired, and [he] should be commended on what has been an incredible career across all three formats. Certainly, our planning is that he won’t be there in Pakistan”
“Certainly for Glenn and Mitch, the Champions Trophy is very much on the horizon, [and is a] very important tournament for those guys. And Starcy in particular, I think he’s going to have a huge summer. Clearly, some of the decisions made around this series are around prioritising and getting guys right for what will be a really big summer. As far as ending players, seeing where guys might finish up, we haven’t had those conversations.”
