CSK vs PBKS : “We Are Taking One Match At A Time”- Prabhsimran Singh Aware Of CSK Threat

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Prabhsimran Singh has emphasized a game-by-game approach, focusing on playing their best cricket and letting the results follow. Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh is showing “greater maturity” this IPL season and repaying the faith shown in him by the team management, believes their spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi.

Starting off cautiously, the seasoned Punjab batter exploded in the latter half of his innings to top-score with a 49-ball 83, guiding them to 201 for four against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on Saturday. Prabhsimran Singh, who was on 34 off 32 balls at one stage, accelerated brilliantly to score 49 runs in his next 17 deliveries.

The evolution of Prabhsimran Singh: From powerplay basher to all-phase disruptor in IPL 2025

It certainly takes something special to outdo Glenn Maxwell at his own game. On Sunday, Maxwell pulled off the switch-hit against Varun Chakravarthy, but it was Prabhsimran Singh’s switch-hit off Sunil Narine that left our collective jaws on the floor. Prabhsimran  Singh is usually an intent machine in the powerplay, but on an Eden Gardens pitch that was described as “very, very slow”, he tempered his natural instincts and didn’t overhit the ball. He was on 34 off 32 balls. He was up against one of the best bowlers in T20 cricket.

Narine darted a good-length delivery on middle and leg. It’s the kind of ball that has tied batters down for years. Prabhsimran Singh, though, played a sensational switch-hit and launched the ball over the cover boundary, well away from the reach of deep point. When Prabhsimran Singh attempted another switch-hit, off a no-ball, he miscued it to cover, but the choice of the shot had already messed with the line, length and plans of Narine.

In the lead-up to the IPL, Prabhsimran Singh had cracked three successive hundreds in the 50-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy, including an unbeaten 150 against Mumbai. But not too many fans follow cricket outside of internationals and the IPL. To them, Prabhsimran Singh was perhaps just another uncapped player until IPL 2025.

Prabhsimran Singh has enjoyed three seasons with PBKS, earning considerable success with his fiery starts as an opener. This season, he has made 292 runs in nine innings at an average of 32.44, with a couple of half-centuries, and his runs are coming at a strike rate of 168.78. His best score is 83.

Overall, in 43 matches, he has made 1,048 runs at an average of 24.37 and a strike rate of 151.88, with a century and five fifties. His best score is 103. The 2023 season was his best so far, with 358 runs in 14 matches at an average of 25.57 and a strike rate of 150.42, with a century and fifty, and the best score of 103.

PBKS opener Prabhsimran Singh expresses that the main aim of PBKS in IPL 2025 is to play their best cricket.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Prabhsimran Singh has emphasized a game-by-game approach, focusing on playing their best cricket and letting the results follow

“There’s no special planning we’re taking it one match at a time. The only goal is to play our best cricket. If we focus on that, the results will take care of themselves. It’s simple whichever team plays better on the day, wins. So our mindset is just to give our best in every game. Yes, we haven’t qualified in recent years, but every season brings new players, and every 2-3 years there’s a mega auction, so the team keeps changing,” Prabhsimran Singh said speaking on Star Sports Press Room.

Singh acknowledged the team’s desire to qualify and win the trophy, using it as motivation.

“At the back of our minds, of course, there’s a desire to qualify and win the trophy we take that as motivation. But we don’t carry the baggage of the past. Even if we don’t qualify, nothing ends we’ll come back stronger. Our thinking is positive, and our captain and coach are also positive-minded people. That helps us stay focused and avoid negative thoughts.”

Prabhsimran Singh spoke about Punjab Kings Head Coach Ricky Ponting’s message.

“When Punjab Kings retained me, I got a message from Ricky Ponting. We were playing the Emerging Asia Cup at that time I spoke to him there. He wanted me to stay; that’s why they retained me. I was very happy because when I scored a 100 against Delhi Capitals in the IPL, he was the Delhi Capitals coach.

“We met after that match, and he told me I had a bright future. I spoke to him only once, and then again before being retained. I’ve been with Punjab Kings for seven years. They have trusted me now it’s my turn to pay them back. I’ve strengthened myself mentally; the effort remains the same for the team,” he added.

Prabhsimran Singh will be next seen in action when Chennai Super Kings host Punjab Kings in Match No. 49 of the ongoing Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, . Five-time champions CSK are going through a tough phase in the Indian Premier League 2025. They have consistently been placed at the bottom, and their chances of qualifying are now almost over.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings are placed at the fifth spot with five wins, three defeats, and a no-result game in their nine games. They are coming off an abandoned game against the Kolkata Knight Riders . In the game before that, they had to face a seven-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home.
