Urvil Patel was a man possessed as he literally tore apart the LSG bowling in a matter of 2 overs, as CSK got the momentum and eventually got the monkey off their back. Urvil Patel set it up before the others chipped in and held their nerve for an important win. LSG batted first and through a blazing innings from Josh Inglis, who made 85 off 33 balls and the finish from Shahbaz Ahmed as the visitors made 203/8 with Jamie Overton of CSK leading the fightback with 3 wickets with the ball in hand.

Josh Inglis’ blazing 85 powers LSG to a massive 203/8 in 20 overs

Put into bat first, Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh came out to open for LSG while Akeal Hosein had the ball in hand for CSK. It was the Josh Inglis show as he blazed away in the power play. Last match’s centurion, Mitchell Marsh, was a spectator and was rotating the strike. But Inglis just dominated CSK in the power play and tore everyone that came in their way. It was all LSG in the first 6 overs.

Marsh hit a maximum as well. But Inglis was playing the reverse ramps and all kinds of shots that befuddled CSK’s plans. The duo added 77 runs in 5 overs. CSK finally got the breakthrough in the power play as Mitchell Marsh was removed for 10 off 10 balls with one six to his name to Anshul Kamboj. Nicholas Pooran came out to bat next as Inglis had passed his fifty as well by now. At the end of the power play, LSG were flying high at 91/1 and looked good to get a massive total on the board.

The duo of Inglis and Pooran added 15 runs for the second wicket before Pooran fell for 1 off 3 balls to Noor Ahmad. Captain Rishabh Pant came out to bat next. Inglis and Pant tried to forge a partnership and added 20 runs for the third wicket before Inglis was finally dismissed for 85 off 33 balls with 10 fours and 6 sixes to his name by Jamie Overton. Aiden Markram came out to bat next. Just 3 runs were added to the score before Pant fell for 15 off 12 balls with 2 fours to his name to Overton, who cleaned him up. Overton had two in the over.

Akshat and Shahbaz tried to forge a stand and added another 17 runs for the 6th wicket before Akshat fell for 18 off 18 balls with one four to his name to Overton yet again.

Himmat Singh came out to bat next. He was quickly off the blocks as Shahbaz and Himmat tried to provide the finishing kick as CSK made a roaring comeback into the contest. They did well in the death overs phase before Himmat finally fell in the final over of the innings for 17 off 12 balls with one four and one six to his name by Anshul Kamboj, who cleaned him up.

Noor Ahmad finished with figures of 1/24 in 4 overs. Akeal Hosein finished with 0/49 in 4 overs. Mukesh Choudhary finished with 0/45 in 4 overs. This meant that CSK’s target was a massive 204 runs to win off 20 overs. Remember, they are yet to chase down 180+ since 2019. They will have to change the script tonight.

Urvil Patel’s blistering innings helps CSK get over the line in a nervy finish

Chasing a mammoth 204 for the win, keeper batter Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain, came out to bat for CSK while Mohammed Shami had the ball in hand for LSG. CSK came quickly off the blocks with Samson coming out all guns blazing, while Gaikwad also started well. CSK always stayed ahead of the rate in the initial overs of the chase. Samson got another blazing start and raced to 28 quickly.

The opening duo put on 45 inside 4 overs for the first wicket before Samson was cleaned up for 28 off 14 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name to Digvesh Rathi. Young Urvil Patel came out to bat next. Urvil got off the mark with a single but then went on a rampaging run. Urvil smashed Avesh for 4 sixes in an over and then smashed Rathi as well. 50 runs were scored in the last two overs of the power play. CSK thanks Urvil Patel, who raced to 97/1 in 6 overs of power play.

Urvil continued his work after the power play and got to his fifty in 13 balls, which was the joint fastest in IPL history. He carried on the good work while Gaikwad was happy to rotate the strike. Urvil got tired and lost his shape as he put on 81 runs off 34 balls before Urvil, who was dropped on 62 by Rathi, fell for 65 off 23 balls with 2 fours and 8 sixes to his name to Shahbaz Ahmed. Kartik Sharma came out to bat next.

The damage was done, and CSK were the team in front, but things slowed down post Patel’s dismissal as LSG clawed their way back in the game slowly but steadily. Gaikwad and Kartik put on 23 runs for the third wicket before LSG got the big wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad for a well-made 42 off 28 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name, to Shahbaz again, as the captain was cleaned up. Dewald Brevis came out to bat next and got off the mark with a boundary.

Things slowed down further post-Gaikwad’s dismissal. The duo of Brevis and Kartik Sharma added 20 runs at a snail’s pace before Brevis fell for 10 off 12 balls with one four to his name to Rathi. Shivam Dube came out to bat next. The score was 169/5 in 16 overs when, after the break, Kartik fell for 20 off 20 balls with one four to his name to Avesh Khan, the Impact Player. Impact Player Prashant Veer came out to bat next.

Things really got tight at the closing stages of the match with Dube and Veer at the crease. But the duo held their nerves and did not panic. Veer got the maximum away. LSG made a meal of it as they dropped catches. Veer was dropped twice in two balls off Avesh Khan, as first Rathi dropped him and then Pooran in the deep. Veer made them pay with another maximum as the game went to the last over.

Dube was unbeaten on 15 off 7 balls with 2 sixes to his name, while Prashant Veer was unbeaten on 17 off 12 balls with 2 sixes to his name. 11 extras given by the fielding side.
