Netherlands assistant coach Ryan van Niekerk stated that his team lost the T20I series to Bangladesh due to poor shot selection, rather than the absence of senior players. The Dutch have conceded the away series against the Bangla Tigers 0-2 with a game to go after getting a sound beating in the second T20I on Monday, September 1. The Netherlands were dismissed for just 103 in the second T20I as they shot themselves in the foot with Nasum Ahmed taking three wickets.
Bangladesh secure a easy win vs Netherlands in 2nd T20I to win series 2-0.
Bangladesh surged to a 2-0 lead in their three-match series against Netherlands with another comfortable win in the second T20I in Sylhet. Netherlands’ batting failed once again, failing to punish the hosts for some sloppy fielding, and seven of their batters were dismissed for single-digit scores as they slumped to 103 all out.
Nasum Ahmed, who replaced Rishad Hossain for this game, finished with three wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman continued their wicket-taking form with two apiece. Tanzid Hasan then hit an unbeaten half-century as Bangladesh romped to victory in 13.1 overs, making it their third-quickest chase in T20Is (where overs weren’t reduced).
Led by a clinical all-round bowling display and Tanzid Hasan’s blazing half-century, Bangladesh cruised to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Netherlands in the second T20I, on Monday. Put in to bat, Netherlands struggled to find momentum in their innings, with Nasum Ahmed and Taskin Ahmad combining to strike thrice in the powerplay. Much of the runs scored in this phase came from Vikramjit Singh’s bat as he cracked four boundaries in his 17-ball knock.
Scott Edwards and Shariz Ahmad attempted to revive the innings with a steady fourth wicket stand, but once the captain was dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman, their innings came collapsing again, and by the 15th over, they were reduced to 81 for 9. Towards the latter end of the innings, Aryan Dutt cracked three boundaries and a six in his enterprising knock of 30, the highest of the innings, to help Netherlands cross the 100-run mark before he was cleaned up by Mahedi Hasan.
In response, Bangladesh took little time to take control in the chase. In the second over, Parvez Hossain and Tanzid Hasan cracked a boundary each to get a move on. The openers put on a 40-run stand before Kyle Klein had the last laugh when Parvez got an edge to an offcutter to the ‘keeper. However, that happened to be the last success of the game for the visitors.
Litton Das, got going with a reverse sweep for a boundary, before Tanzid took over. The duo took calculated risks, and turned the strike over at regularly. The dot balls dropped through the middle overs, and on a surface where there wasn’t much assistance for the bowlers, Bangladesh cruised past Netherlands’ total with 41 balls to spare and secure a series-winning lead. Following the defeat, Netherlands assistant coach Ryan van Niekerk blame poor shot-selections as a reason for the series loss.
Netherlands assistant coach Ryan van Niekerk blame poor shot-selections as a reason for 2-0 series loss vs Bangladesh
Netherlands assistant coach Ryan van Niekerk said on Monday (September 1) that he does not believe their series loss to Bangladesh was due to absence of senior cricketers, and rather they paid the price of poor shot selection.
Netherlands have hardly put up a fight in the series so far, losing the three-match series with one game to spare after Bangladesh defeated them by nine wickets in the second game following their eight-win in the series opener.
The visitors, who were bowled out for 103 in the second match after managing only 136 in the opening game, missed seniors like Bas de Leede, Roelf van der Merwe, Fred Klaassen and Colin Ackermann in the series. Van Niekerk, however, refused to accept the absence of seniors as the reason for their poor showdown.
“Very disappointing (to lose the series in this manner) as we certainly hold high standards for ourselves and have been training that way,” he said following the series loss. “I think Bangladesh are playing really good cricket at the moment in their home conditions. I don’t think it is necessarily our batting depth (reason for the poor outing). I think it’s just our decision making at the moment.
“When you play a top side like Bangladesh in their home conditions, those small margins all of a sudden make a big difference in terms of what totals you can put on the board. Their bowlers don’t give you opportunities to score boundaries as well as they have quality fielding.
“If you’re making poor decisions or taking a little longer to sum up conditions, when it comes to a quality side like Bangladesh, that’s going to hurt you,” he added.
Only three players made scores in double digits, with No.9 player Aryan Dutt being the top scorer at 30. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman also took two wickets each. Bangladesh made short work of the chase. Tanzid Hasan Tamim hit a fifty, while Parvez Hossain Emon also scored 23 from 21 balls. Captain Litton Das’ 18 and Tanzid’s 54 closed the game with nine wickets to spare and 41 balls to go.
