Asia Cup is a tournament where Asian teams fight against each other. Recently, ICC held a meeting in Colombo, and many things were discussed but the most important announcement was regarding the Asia Cup, India will be hosting Asia Cup 2025 in T20 Format while Bangladesh will be hosting Asia Cup 2027 in ODI format.
After this announcement, much banter started over social media since Pakistan will be hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 but BCCI has strictly refused to send Pakistan, since then many incidents happened after that.
Basit Ali consults Jay Shah
Jay Shah who is the secretary of BCCI and President of ACC (Asian Cricket Council) announced the next fixtures of the Asia Cup and keeping T20 World Cup 2026 in mind Asia Cup 2025 will be in T20 format. Asia Cup has never been hosted by India since 1990 and it’s a great opportunity to witness India playing at home as India last played in a hybrid model and won the Asia Cup. The last 3 Asia Cups have been hosted in UAE, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka but India hasn’t hosted the Asia Cup due to political interpretations of India and Pakistan, in between former Pakistan player Basit Ali raised some concerns regarding Asia Cup hosting in India, Basit Ali said:
“Well done, Jay Shah. You’ve killed two birds with one stone. You kill two birds with one stone, but Basit Ali kills three birds with one stone. Now let me give you some free advice. Try to shift the Asia Cup to some other country. Jay Shah could take a U-turn after my show.”
“Jay Shah knew that India would have to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy otherwise Pakistan won’t come for the Asia Cup. Pakistan won’t even go for the T20 World Cup if India say no for the Champions Trophy. To hell with the hybrid model. There could also be another lollipop of India adopting a hybrid model for the Asia Cup so that Pakistan do the same for the Champions Trophy.”
