Asia Cup 2025: “Suryakumar Yadav Is A World Class Player”- Dinesh Karthik Hails Indian Skipper’s Knock

Team India under Suryakumar Yadav registered a brilliant win against Pakistan in the sixth game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. The two sides faced off at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 14, and India managed to register a seven-wicket win.

With the win, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav went on to surpass Rohit Sharma and become India’s most successful T20I captain in terms of win percentage (minimum 10 matches). It is worth noting that Suryakumar Yadav has led India to 20 wins in 24 matches as the captain and has a win percentage of 81.25 per cent, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s win percentage of 79.83 per cent.

The clash saw Pakistan coming in to bat first and posting a total of 127 runs on the board. Chasing down the target, Suryakumar Yadav played a captain’s knock, going unbeaten on a score of 47 runs in 37 deliveries as India chased down the target in 15.5 overs, winning the game by seven wickets.

India registered yet another dominating win in the Asia Cup with a win against arch-rival Pakistan. Kuldeep Yadav starred with three wickets to dismantle the Pakistani middle order yet again as Pakistan struggled their way to 127/9 in 20 overs.

It was a similar start with the bat for India as Abhishek Sharma smashed a four and a six off the first two balls to set the tone for the chase. Shubman Gill, however, fell for just 10 runs before being stumped off the bowling of Saim Ayub. Batting at No 3, skipper Suryakumar Yadav anchored India’s chase with an unbeaten 47 runs off 37 balls. Sharma got India off to a whirlwind start 31 runs off just 12 balls, while Tilak Varma played a run a a ball 31-run knock as India chased down the modest total.

For Pakistan, it was Ayub with all three wickets, while Abrar Ahmed kept things tight with a spell of 4 overs for 16 runs. However, none of the other bowlers managed to apply pressure on the Indian batters.Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to the worst possible start by losing Ayub on the first ball of the match to Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah struck in the second over to peg the Pakistani innings that never got going.

The spin trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy further applied a chokehold on the batting as they collectively conceded just 60 runs and picked up six wickets in 12 overs. Following this one -sided win vs Pakistan, Dinesh Karthik Former Indian cricketer now commentator was in full praise of skipper Suryakumar Yadav for his stady knock of 47 runs vs Pakistan steering India to a dominant victory over India.

Following India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 Group A match,  Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik praised Suryakumar Yadav’s performance.Dinesh  Karthik highlighted Suryakumar’s ability to play effortlessly on a challenging pitch during his unbeaten knock of 47* (37 balls) that steered India to a comfortable 7-wicket victory. He characterized Suryakumar’s batting as “effortlessly acing” on the difficult surface.
Former Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik praised Suryakumar Yadav for his unbeaten 47 runs vs Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. The 35-year old batter came into this tournament on the back of poor T20I performances averaging only 15.09 in in the 2024/25 season.
Suryakumar Yadav has also struggled historically vs Pakistan in the previous matches with 18 being his highest score in all the five matches he played before vs them.  However the right-hander showcased his prowess in a relatively comfortable run-chase of 128 helping his side win the match by seven wickets. Talsking about Suryakumar Yadav’s knock after the match on Cricbuzz, Karthik said :
“It was an important 47 purely because Gill got out early. He walked in at a stage where you lose a couple more wickets and the game looks different. And his record against Pakistan hasn’t been great. He would have wanted to set that right. On a tough pitch which wasn’t too easy to bat, he made batting look simple. He stuck to his shots and completed it with absolute comfort in terms of the approach to chasing down a small total like this.”
“We always see him take down the fast bowlers a lot but today it was his turn to show how good he is against spinners. He played the sweep to a nice effect and the cut shot nicely. After taking over captaincy, his form hasn’t been as good as we are used to prior to captaincy. But the fact is that he is a world class player without a doubt. He had a quiet start to the IPL actually in the first couple of games and then just took off.” he added.
Suryakumar Yadav walked down to bat at No 3 after the fall of Shubman Gill with India at 22 for 1 in 2 overs. He completed the match with unbeatan 47 runs laced with five boundaries and one six and look comfortable and untroubled thoughout his chase in the Indian innings.
Dinesh Karthik also hailed Suryakumar Yadav’s prowess in the T20I format as an swashbuckling player for his consistency in the format after the India-Pakistan match. The Indian skipper boasts outstanding T20I numbers with the bat, avaeraging 39 at a strike rate of 166.37 in 85 matches.
“Once he takes off, he just keeps going with the momentum. He knows how to get his runs in T20. It’s the best format for him. He exactly has a template which is very well suited to what is required to excel in this format. And he keeps rinsing and repeating it every time he is out on the cricket field. The fact that the captain is batting so well and taking down opponents and making sure we get home, it’s a very good sign,” said Karthik
With the win, India is all but into the Super 4s stage of the Asia Cup.India will next fact Oman on September 19, while Pakistan will play the UAE on September 17.
