India would be keen to continue the winning run after dismantling the UAE in their opening match. The team selection raised a lot of eyebrows with management and skipper Suryakumar Yadav resting Arshdeep Singh & went with only one pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. Arshdeep Singh has been quite pivotal to India’s success in the shortest format over the last 3-4 years.
Pakistan, on the other hand, would be breathing a sigh of relief despite defeating Oman by 93 runs. Pakistan’s batting line-up was exposed with Saim Ayub’s golden first-ball duck, and also the shot selection of Salman Ali Agha on the very first ball was atrocious and shocking. Mohammad Haris’ half-century was the only highlight against Oman. If Pakistan wants to outclass India, then they need 3-4 batters to shine, not a one-man show.
India won’t play Arshdeep Singh- Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra was seen speaking & analyzing on his YouTube channel. Aakash Chopra pointed out that Arshdeep Singh will continue to be benched for the Pakistan match as well. Aakash Chopra stated that Arshdeep Singh would be rested, given that Indian spinners will most likely be in ascendancy against mighty Pakistan.
“I think they won’t play Arshdeep Singh. They will think about him for sure, but they won’t play him, although it’s slightly surprising in a sense, because when T20s started, it was being said that the fast bowlers were dominant, and why spinners were being kept. Then spinners started pulling their weight in the format,” said Aakash Chopra
“However, slowly-slowly, we have reached a stage where we are saying that all spinners can be played. Dew is not coming here, something everyone was wary of. The pitches are looking slightly dusty. It doesn’t seem like the ball is skidding. If it’s not skidding, the pitches are dusty, and dew is not coming, the spinners are more dominant,” he added.
Stern task for Pakistan
Pakistan’s skipper will have to pull a rabbit out of the hat from ex-skipper Babar Azam’s captaincy. Babar Azam defeated India twice in ICC T20 WC 2021 & Asia Cup 2022 matches. Salman Ali Agha will have to carefully use 4 overs of Shaheen Afridi & Haris Rauf as the best way for Pakistan to win is to bundle out India or restrict them to below 170.
Fakhar Zaman can be said as the senior-most player & dependable as well. It’s quite clear that Pakistan’s batting line-up needs to step up and tackle the threat of Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy & Kuldeep Yadav. It will require a Herculean effort to get a hold on India’s bowling unit, given the trio Varun, Kuldeep & Bumrah will be ruthless as 12 overs combined of all would be tough to dictate.
Pressure on India
Given India has a strong batting depth and bowling options, they are more than red-hot favorites to win the match. The only concern India has if their top order crumbles like 50-4, then they might be in a state of bother. The side heavily relies on Hardik Pandya, who has been a consistent performer after his heroics in the ICC T20 WC 2024 final with the ball in hand.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir & skipper Suryakumar Yadav can’t afford to take Pakistan lightly. The Men in Green have a pedigree of being mercurial and unpredictable, which can’t be ignored at all. The onus is on India to win & dictate the terms, but Pakistan has got absolutely nothing to lose as their team is in transition with new head coach Mike Hesson & skipper Salman Ali Agh; who knows a fearless Pakistan side can dethrone Men in Blue. India start as sure-shot favorites, but in T20Is, the game changes in a span of 1-2 overs, which can make the upcoming contest mouth-watering after a humdrum Asia Cup 2025 so far.
