ENG vs IND: Records Galore After Joe Root Headlines Near England’s Day

Joe Root is one run away from smashing his first ton of Test series as he is stranded on 99 runs in 191 balls and hit 9 fours so far.

Joe Root remained not out on 99 at the end of day 1. He equaled the record of Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting for the most fifty-plus scores in test cricket ( 103 ). He is just behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has 119 fifty-plus scores in this format.

Joe Root also become only the 7th batter in test cricket to face more than 23000 deliveries.

Root touched 7000 runs at home in test cricket. He became the 5th batter to achieve this feat at home soil in test cricket.

Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Ollie Pope in the first day. This was his 611th wicket for India in International cricket. He went past former legend Zaheer Khan ( 610 wickets ) to become 5th leading wicket taker for India across formats. He also become the highest wicket taker as a left arm bowler for India.
