Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal showed his resilience in his first test in Australia. The left-hander had a point to prove coming into the series after failing to score major runs against New Zealand. Also, his batting against a quality pace attack was under a scanner after his poor show in the test series in South Africa in December 2023. India registered a dominating victory & won the match by 295 runs against Australia in 1st Test match
Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to impress in the first innings, falling cheaply, playing an expansive drive to Mitchell Starc. However, the southpaw came back roaring in the second innings, scoring a monumental 161, his first ton against Australia. Jaiswal also became only the third Indian to score a century in his first test Down Under. While Jaiswal was unable to convert his century into a double, his score of 161 is the highest-ever Test score by an Indian batsman in Perth.
There is a responsibility on his shoulders to make all the Indians happy– Jwala Singh on Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jwala Singh, Jaiswal’s coach, elaborated on the young batter’s determination and reinforced his confidence in the opener, saying that he is among the top young talents in world cricket today.
“When he was going to Australia there were a lot of talks about his (Yashasvi Jaiswal) capability and people were saying, the real test is when a player goes to SENA countries,” stated Jwala Singh.
“I was not worried and I was very sure that as he has done a lot of good performances in the past and proved himself, so I think he did well today. He proved why he is ranked one of the best youngsters of today’s generation.”
“Recently he has been with top players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid and now Gautam Gambhir, who are helping him a lot,” Jwala reinstated his faith.
“As he is playing for the Indian cricket team, there is a responsibility on his shoulders to make all the Indians happy and beat Australia in Australia,”
Yashasvi Jaiswal along with his opening partner KL Rahul put up a mammoth 201-run stand setting up the game nicely for India. Also, Virat Kohli returned to form scoring his 81st ton. Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy along with Virat put on a show with a quick-fire partnership as the duo led the visitors to 487-6 when Skipper Jasprit Bumrah decided to have a crack at the Aussie batsmen before the end of play on Day 3 setting a mammoth target of 534 runs for Australia.
