South Africa recently lost the final of the T20 World Cup against India it was their first ever ICC final but in the end, they lost the match, overall South Africa had a great time in the T20 World Cup. Cricket South Africa (CSA) is on the verge of transitional phase where for West Indies some star players like Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen and many were left out citing franchise commitments which gives us an idea where South Africa cricket is going to be in next 2-3 years.

Temba Bavuma has been sidelined from the white ball format since 2023 so he is not even considered for this format, he is only focusing on the red ball format. Temba Bavuma had received a lot of criticism for his batting performance in T20 WC 2022 and they suffered a heart breaking exit after getting defeated by Netherlands. Temba Bavuma was also sacked from T20I captaincy post the tournament.

Temba Bavuma speaks about sacking from white ball format

Temba Bavuma was the captain of South Africa’s white ball format but after the 2023 ICC World Cup, he hardly played ODIs and T20Is last he was seen playing around December 2023 against India. Later he was removed as captain and then no place for him but Temba Bavuma seems like is not even bothered, Temba Bavuma said:

“It’s not a surprise that I’m not there, but me being in the T20 squad would’ve raised more eyebrows. It’s better that way that I’m not there. My focus now is on Test cricket and I’m going to try to play as best as I can in the format. There’s also 50-over cricket that’s coming in the next few months and the one thing that I can trust is that if I get going in Test and 50-over cricket, everything else will follow from there.”

South Africa is currently in the West Indies for a test series and they played quite well, but unfortunately, the match ended in a draw, Temba Bavuma played an impressive knock which was appreciated by everyone. Will Temba Bavuma make a comeback in white-ball format or the doors for him are closed officially?
