Pakistan ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan produced a true brain fade moment in the third ODI against West Indies on Tuesday, incurring a first-ball duck. Up against an in-form Jayden Seales, Mohammad Rizwan came out to bat after the dismissal of Abdullah Shafique who was also dismissed for a duck by Seales.
Facing an in-swinging delivery from Seales, Mohammad Rizwan made a brain-fade decision as he left the delivery before it hit the top of the stumps. The batter was stunned to see the ball move, the way it did, giving cricket fans on social media another opportunity to troll him.
Pakistan haven’t been at their best for a while. Before the start of the ODI series, the team somehow managed to beat West Indies 2-1 in a T20I assignment. After winning the first ODI, Pakistan suffered humiliating defeats in the following two matches, with the final match on Tuesday truly seeing the hosts make a gigantic comeback.
Seeing Mohammad Rizwan’s bizarre decision-making, fans trolled the Pakistan skipper on social media. The decision to leave Seales’ in-swinging delivery can very well win the ‘worst leave of the year’ award.
Pakistan suffered a humiliating batting collapse in the ODI series decider against the West Indies at Tarouba, managing only 92 runs while chasing a formidable 295. After securing a strong start to the series with a five-wicket win in the opener, Mohammad Rizwan’s side crumbled spectacularly in the second match and capitulated entirely in the decider, leaving fans stunned.
The top order fell apart almost immediately, with openers Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and captain Rizwan all dismissed for ducks within the first three overs. Babar Azam failed to anchor the innings, departing for a mere 9, while Salman Agha offered minimal resistance, top-scoring with just 30. While all players bore the brunt in brutal post-match analysis, the duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were specifically criticised for their non-performance.
Babar Azam showed promising signs of a return to form with an impressive 47 in the first ODI, but faltered with a duck in the second game. Another single-digit score in the third ODI meant that his overall series performance remained inconsistent, leaving Pakistan without the steady batting anchor they desperately needed.
While Mohammad Rizwan did score a half-century, he, too, failed to make a mark later in the series, with scores of 16 and 0.Following the series defeat, Basit Ali, the former Pakistan cricketer, didn’t mince his words as he hammered the two players.
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali launched a scathing attack on Mohammad Rizwan and Pakistan team after 2-1 drubbing with WI
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has said that he would like it if India refused to play Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, like they did in the recent World Championship of Legends, because otherwise, Pakistan are in for a massive humiliation, one like they suffered at the hands of the Windies on Tuesday.
Against the Windies, Pakistan’s batting lineup crumbled from the start, with three top-order wickets falling inside the first three overs. Openers Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique and skipper Mohammad Rizwan fell for ducks, leaving the chase in ruins.
Pakistan’s innings folded inside 30 overs, with Jayden Seales wreaking havoc to claim 6/18 in under eight overs.
“I pray India refuse to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, just like how they did at the World Championships of Legends. Itni buri tarah maarenge na vo, ki aapki soch hai (They will beat us so badly you can’t even imagine),” Basit said while speaking on The Game Plan YouTube channel.
The host chuckled at the remark before adding that, in their current state, Pakistan would not even stand a chance against Afghanistan.
“If we lose to Afghanistan, no one would care much in this country. But everyone goes mad the moment you lose to India,” Basit said.
While Pakistan’s showing in the final ODI merits criticism, it is worth noting that the upcoming Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format, where the side has fared better.Pakistan, led by Salman Agha, had clinched the T20I series against the Windies 2-1.On Tuesday, an inspired Seales led the Windies to a crushing 202-run win against Pakistan in the third and deciding ODI in Trinidad.Seales blew away the Pakistan top order en route to figures of 6/18 as the tourists were bundled out for only 92 in a chase of 295 to win.
Pakistan will next be in action on August 29 against Afghanistan in a tri-series that features the UAE as well, serving as preparation for the Asia Cup in September. Since the Champions Trophy, where they couldn’t manage to win even a single match, the side has been in poor form. They went on to lose the series against New Zealand too, 0-3. And now, lost against West Indies 1-2.
