Sunil Gavaskar Opinion On Australian Batting Lineup

Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar has put forward his opinion on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. According to the 75-year-old commentator, the Test series between India and Australia will be an example of why Test cricket is a top-quality game of all formats. In addition, Sunil Gavaskar also predicted India to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 by 3-1. The former Indian cricketer explained that David Warner’s retirement and Australia’s staggering middle-order will lead them to lose their third consecutive Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home. In his column for Mid Day, Sunil Gavaskar, said,

“It’s going to be an exciting series for sure with the talent that is there on both sides and it will also show why Test match cricket is the ultimate format of our beloved game. Oh, and my prediction is a 3-1 win for India. With their opening batting problems exacerbated after the retirement of David Warner and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again.”

Furthermore, Sunil Gavaskar also pointed out that India has a history of starting slow in overseas series. The former cricketer turned commentator also noted that the lack of proper first-class games before the series, along with week-long gaps between some Test matches, could potentially work against them. He said,

“India being usual slow starters in an overseas series in SENA countries the first Test will be crucial. That they aren’t playing proper first-class games before that as well as in the week-long gaps between some Test matches could work against them. That said, it is how schedules are nowadays for most touring sides,”
In the previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy held in Australia, India seized the series by 2-1. The first Test held in Adelaide was in favor of Australia as they won by eight wickets. The second Test in Melbourne was won by India by eight wickets. The match ended in a draw in the Third Test in Sydney. The final Test in Brisbane was grabbed by India by three wickets.
The five Test matches will be in five different cities in Australia. The first Test(22nd November- 26th November) will be in Perth. Adelaide will host the second Test(6th December-10th December). The third Test(14th December-18th December) will be in Brisbane. Melbourne will host the fourth Test(26th December-30th December). The fifth and final Test(3rd January-7th January) will be in Sydney.
