After being embroiled in chaos prior to the tour, Pakistan completed an incredible comeback by winning the third and final ODI by a resounding eight wickets on a lively Optus Stadium pitch, earning them a rare series victory in Australia. In the midst of long-standing Pakistani unrest, white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten resigned a week prior to the trip, making the result even more remarkable. It was Pakistan’s first series win in Australia since 2002.

Following their historic victory over Australia in the ODI series over the weekend, Shoaib Akhtar praised Team Pakistan. On November 10, Pakistan shocked the Australians by defeating the defending world champions 2-1. It took the green-clad men twenty-two years to defeat Australia in their home ground in an ODI series.

Shoaib Akhtar Joins In The Celebrations

Shoaib Akhtar, who lauded Mohammad Rizwan & Co. on his YouTube channel, joined in the festivities as well.

“Outstanding win. After 22 years, we won against Australia. In 2002, I remember I was there. We had won a series in Gabba, and it took us 22 years for the players to win the series. And they did an amazing job,” the Rawalpindi Express said.

Shoaib Akhtar went on to say that the Pakistani team’s mindset changed throughout the entire back-and-forth three-bout match. He asserted that the team’s strategy was greatly influenced by Muhammad Rizwan. Additionally, Akhtar praised the bowling combination of Haris Rauf, Nasim Shah, and Shaheen Afridi of Pakistan for their significant stints.

“They played really well. There was an attitude change. Rizwan changed the attitude. Naseem, Haris, Shaheen. All of them played really well and at the same time they did a comprehensively good job,” the Pakistan legend concluded.

Shoaib Akhtar isn’t the only Pakistan legend celebrating the historic overseas series triumph. Retired wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal shared a congratulatory post on X.

“After 22 years Pakistan won series in Australia…very well done boys whole nation is of you. Now no one will ever say that Pakistan can’t win a series in Australia,” Akmal wrote in his post.

On November 14, Pakistan will play Australia in a three-match Twenty20 International series. The Gabba is where the first game will take place.
