Captain Roston Chase led from the front when it really mattered as he picked up a 5-wicket haul while others chipped in like Jomel Warrican, picking up 9 wickets in the match, and the batters did their bit with Brandon King getting a crucial knock under pressure in the chase as West Indies thumped Bangladesh by 8 wickets inside 4 days, amidst multiple interruptions, as the visitors dented the hosts Bangladesh’s chances of WTC qualification.
There were some positives for Bangladesh like Shadman Islam’s 3rd Test ton, while Nayeem Hasan got 4 wickets in the first innings and a half-century in the second innings. But when it was required to defend 170 in the last innings, the spinners disappointed as Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam looked underconfident. Bangladesh will be rueing the missed opportunities. Losing at home really hurts the Tigers for sure.

Brandon King leads the charge as West Indies completed an easy 8-wicket win inside 4 days
Chasing 170 for the win, Brandon King and John Campbell came out to open the batting for the West Indies while Mehidy Hasan Miraz had the ball in hand for Bangladesh. The hosts bowled an over before Lunch and troubled Campbell, but the West Indies rode their luck through an umpire’s call and all, as luck was with the visitors. After Lunch, there were a few weather interruptions, but the opening duo were unaffected.
They really took the game to the Bangladesh spinners on Day 4, who were bowling in tandem. It seemed Taijul and Mehidy were underconfident, while Nayeem is too young for this circuit. Bad weather, stop start situation did not affect the opening duo as they set the base for the others to follow. King was the aggressor while Campbell was playing second fiddle. Lots of looseners were delivered.
The duo batted at a fair clip and showed that runs can be scored on a minefield. The duo added more than 100 runs as 170 was the target. So, the opening duo did more than half the job required. They put on 112 inside 21 overs before Campbell fell for 49 off 55 balls with 6 fours and one six to his name to Shoriful Islam, who cleaned him up. Tagernarine Chanderpaul came out to bat next.

Just 8 runs were added to the score before Chanderpaul fell for 1 off 15 balls to Hasan Mahmud. Kavem Hodge came out to bat with 50 needed for the win. Hodge took his time for the initial balls, but then came into his own soon. Once he was in the groove, he went on to run over a ball. King was fabulous as the duo made sure there was no looking back for Bangladesh and its spinners in particular.
It was fitting that King hit the winning runs, a boundary through covers as West Indies drew first blood in the series. King remained unbeaten on 81 off 115 balls with 10 fours and one six to his name while Hodge remained unbeaten on 31 off 27 balls with 4 fours and one six to his name as West Indies reached 170/2 in 35.1 overs. 8 extras were given by Bangladesh.
Shoriful Islam finished with 1/20 in 4 overs. Hasan Mahmud finished with 1/14 in 3 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished with 0/26 in 5 overs. Taijul Islam finished with 0/54 in 12.1 overs. Nayeem Hasan finished with 0/49 in 11 overs. The spinners of Bangladesh were disappointing, to say the least, as West Indies won the contest by 8 wickets in 4 days. Jomel Warrican was adjudged the Player of the Match for his 9 wickets in the match.
