Daryn Dupavillion led with the ball as Pretoria Capitals secured a six-wicket SA20 win against the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who remain winless in the tournament so far. Daryn Dupavillion finished with 3/32, while Eathan Bosch, after struggling against Durban Super Giants last week bounced back in encouraging fashion, showing some of the form that made him the young player of the tournament in the SA20’s first season, picking up 2/18 in four overs.

Pretoria Capitals comfortably defeated Sunrisers Eastern Cape by six wickets in Centurion, handing the two-time defending champions their third consecutive loss of the SA20 season. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape seem intent on taking the scenic route to another SA20 title, after suffering a third consecutive defeat, this time to the Pretoria Capitals at a half-full SuperSport Park in Centurion on Tuesday afternoon.

The champions of the first two years of the tournament have struggled to assert themselves with the bat, and as in their first match against MI Cape Town, suffered a horrible implosion at a mostly sunny — thankfully — Centurion.

Pitch Report and Toss

Pitch Report : The playing surface at the SuperSport Park in Centurion is generally considered to be favorable for batters. However, the predicted overcast conditions might offer significant assistance to fast bowlers, especially with the new ball upfront. Nonetheless, the average first innings total in all SA20 matches hosted by the venue has amounted to 198.

According to AccuWeather, there is a strong possibility of rains at the SuperSport Park in Centurion during the scheduled match time. The forecast indicates a 44 percent of thunderstorm within the opening hour, and the possibility rises up to 51 percent around the halfway stage. The temperature will range around the 25° during the game. Fans can very well expect rain-marred proceedings at the venue.

Toss : Pretoria Capitals skipper Rilee Rossouw won the toss and chose to bowl with no changes in the playing XI. Sunrisers Eastern Cape skipper Aiden Markram who also wanted to bowl first made 2 changes in the playing XI with Jordan Hermann and Liam Dawson is out and Pat Kruger and Craig Overton in the playing XI.

Daryn Dupavillion rips through Sunrisers top order to restrict them to 113 after Marco Jansen’s 51 runs

Earlier, the Capitals’ bowlers used the conditions perfectly, with Daryn Dupavillion the best of the bunch, taking an impressive three for 32 in his four overs. His initial spell, together with tight bowling from Eathan Bosch (2/18) and Miguel Pretorius (1/21) rocked the visitors.

Batting first, the Sunrisers struggled and were bowled out for just 113 in 19.4 overs, undone by poor shot selection and some sharp bowling. Their top order collapsed to 4/3 and then 26/5 as Eathan Bosch and Daryn Dupavillion struck early. Aiden Markram fell for a golden duck and the rest of the batters faltered, leaving Marco Jansen to fight alone. Jansen’s fluent 53 off 45 balls offered some resistance, but he lacked support from the other end. Bosch (2 for 18) and Dupavillion (3 for 32) led the attack, with crucial contributions from Senuran Muthusamy.

After being sent to bat, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s batting lineup never truly found their rhythm as they tumbled to 113 all out. The Pretoria Capitals came out firing with the ball as they continued to put the defending champions under pressure.

It was an excellent effort in the field for Pretoria Capitals as Dupavillion took three for 32 with key contributions from Neesham (2/11), Eathan Bosch (2/18), Senuran Muthusamy (2/29) and Miguel Pretorius (1/21).

Before the Sunrisers knew what had hit them they had lost three wickets for four runs, Zak Crawley, David Bedingham and Aiden Markram all dismissed cheaply. Tom Abell went next, followed by Tristan Stubbs to leave their team reeling on 26/5. Patrick Kruger went next before Marco Jansen (51 off 35) and Simon Harmer (seven off six) put on 40 runs for the seventh wicket. But when they went it wasn’t long before the Capitals wrapped up the innings after 19.4 overs, the Sunrisers all out for 113.

Bedingham made just two on Tuesday, the first half of Daryn Dupavillion back-to-back strikes in what turned into a double wicket maiden in his first over. The second was Aiden Markram’s wicket, who was unlucky to lift a leg-stump half volley — his first ball — to Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the square leg boundary.

Sunrisers lost more wickets in their batting power play than they scored boundaries — 4 to 2 — and even Jansen’s well crafted half-century wasn’t enough to get them to a respectable total. Jansen, who has made valuable contributions with the bat for the Proteas this summer — most notably at SuperSport Park, alongside Kagiso Rabada to win the Boxing Day Test — struck four fours and three sixes in an innings that lasted 35 balls.

Reeling at 26-5, the Sunrisers needed a partnership and someone to anchor the innings, and all-rounder Marco Jansen delivered. The 24-year-old brought up his third SA20 half-century and shared a partnership of 24 with Patrick Kruger (10) and a 40-run stand with Simon Harmer (7). Jansen went on to make 51 off 35 balls before he sliced New Zealander James Neesham (2/11) and was caught in the cover region.

The Capitals should be credited with putting enough balls in the right areas to trouble the Sunrisers, but this was not a 113 all out pitch. Daryn Dupavillion finished with 3/32, while Eathan Bosch, after struggling against Durban Super Giants last week bounced back in encouraging fashion, showing some of the form that made him the young player of the tournament in the SA20’s first season, picking up 2/18 in four overs.

Marques Ackerman steered Pretoria Capitals to an easy 6 wicket win over Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Chasing 114 runs to win at Centurion, Marques Ackerman’s 30-ball 39 got Pretoria Capitals over the line for a bonus-point win. The hosts got off to a fast start with the bat before Craig Overton (1/33) got the early scalp of Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (7).

Capitals made light work of the chase, reaching 115/4 in just 16 overs to earn a bonus point. Will Jacks set the tone with a quick 27 off 23 balls, while Rilee Rossouw chipped in with 12. Marques Ackerman anchored the innings with an unbeaten 39 off 30 balls, ensuring a smooth finish despite a few quick wickets. The win lifted the Capitals to second place on the table while the Sunrisers remained rooted at the bottom.

Marques Ackermann lead the way for the home team, scoring 39 off 30 balls coming in at six in the order after the Capitals had been reduced to 61/4 after nine overs. Will Jacks (27), at the top of the order, got his team off to a solid start. Having also picked up the bonus point on offer, the Capitals moved into second place on the points table ahead of the late game on Tuesday, between Durban’s Super Giants and the Joburg Super Kings.

Englishman Richard Gleeson sparked a dramatic turnaround, claiming the two quick wickets of Kyle Verreynne (12) and opener Will Jacks (27) to reduce Pretoria Capitals to 49/3. Ottniel Baartman picked up the wicket of Rilee Rossouw for 12, which brought some life back into the game for Aiden Markram’s side.

However, Liam Livingstone (14*) and Marques Ackerman (39*) put on a 54-run unbeaten stand to guide the Capitals to a bonus-point victory with 24 balls to spare. This is Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s third loss of the tournament, while Pretoria Capitals secured their second victory after Sunday’s game against Durban’s Super Giants was washed out.

Pretoria made short work of the chase, winning by six wickets in the 16th over. Marques Ackerman, playing his first match, made 39 off 30 deliveries, including hitting the last 15 runs off an over from Jansen that secured not only the win, but also a bonus point. The result is a timely boost for their confidence ahead of their “derby” against Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers on Thursday.

Presentations and Road Ahead

Rilee Rossouw the winning PC skipper said :  I thought we started very well with the ball. The experience of Livingstone at the end and for Ackerman to take us across the line was great. We wanted to take it deep, they played so well towards the end to get us that bonus point. The bowlers came up and performed, they put it in the right spots and asked questions. With this win, hopefully more people come out and support us. We want to represent them and win for them.

Aiden Markram the losing SEC skipper said : We would’ve bowled, still would’ve liked to think we’re a better outfit than that, don’t want to blame it on the toss. Not an ideal day for us. Very much a batting failure. Quite hard to point out the mistakes, it’s how T20 works. Sometimes you’re looking for form and the games come quick. I’m not a big fan of issuing directives and telling people how to play. We all know the basics. We’re never ones to throw the towel in.

Eathan Bosch Player of the Match said : The surface was under covers for a couple of days, we were trying to assess conditions but I think we did well. Good to see the boys sticking to their straps. He’s (Dupavillion) been bowling very nicely, in this game you need to take all the wickets you can get, especially with the new ball. The guys were disappointed with that game (the loss) and then we had a rained out game. We play for our fans and it was great to get a win.

Excellent day out in the office for the Pretoria Capitals. They bowled superbly earlier to restrict the Sunrisers to just 113 and then went out there to chase it down rather comfortably. That six off the last ball ensured that they got there in 16 overs to secure the bonus point as well. The openers came out with an intent to take the game on and while Jacks succeeded in that endeavour, Gurbaz looked scratchy and departed early.

Rossouw and Verreynne got starts but they couldn’t kick on and when Jacks fell, Livingstone and Ackerman decided to lift off the gas a little to ensure that they didn’t collapse. They kept the scoreboard ticking though and with the asking rate never putting them under pressure, Ackerman was able to shift gears again towards the end to net them that bonus point.

The two-time champions have had a horror start to the season this time around. With three losses from three games, they’re rooted to the bottom of the table and are left to pick up the pieces. The Capitals, despite having just one win, slingshot up to second place courtesy that bonus point.
