This was a very important innings for Heinrich Klaasen, coming at a time when he had been in pretty poor form in the tournament after scoring only 43 runs in the last five innings. This performance must surely have impressed his IPL franchise, SRH, who have shown great faith in his abilities, especially after his strong performances last season. Heinrich Klaasen is expected to play a huge role in the upcoming season.

Pitch Report and Toss

Pitch Report : “It is 27 degrees. It is beautiful. There’s a little bit of breeze coming from the mount. There is one short boundary – 59 meters, 69 meters on the other side and 77 down the ground. It is a new surface. Looks like it has a nice shine. Looks like a belter. I think 170 might not be enough. It has some grass covering and I don’t think the cracks are going to play a part. I think it is going to be fine for batting,” inform Mike Haysman and Shaun Pollock.

Toss : MICT skipper Rashid Khan won the toss and chose to bowl with no changes in the playing XI. DSG skipper Keshav Maharaj batting first made as many as three changes in the playing XI.

Heinrich Klassen’s 66 and Kane Williamson’s half century powers DSG to 149 for 6 in 20 overs

Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) were in deep trouble at 22/4, as Trent Boult, George Linde, and Rashid Khan dominated with the ball. Heinrich Klaasen (66) and Kane Williamson (56*) steadied the innings with an excellent 121-run stand for the fifth wicket, helping DSG to post a total of 149/6 in 20 overs.

Ryan Rickelton’s 63 runs and George Linde’s quickfire 29 of 8 balls powers MICT to 7 wicket win over DSG

But it was all in vain as MICT made light work of the chase. Led by a half-century upfront from Ryan Rickelton and his 75-run opening stand with Rassie van der Dussen, MICT were ahead of the asking rate right from the outset. The MI chase was kickstarted by a 75-run partnership between Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton. This laid the foundation for the middle order to take things home.

They made sure they never took the foot off the accelerator thereafter with George Linde being sent with an intention of sealing the chase within 16 overs that would get them the bonus point. While Dewald Brevis gave it some momentum with a hat-trick of boundaries against Junior Dala, Linde took it a few steps further.

Having been dropped second ball after hitting a boundary off his first, Linde took a liking to Marcus Stoinis’ medium pace in the next over. He lofted, pulled and carved his way towards four sixes in five balls that enabled MICT to finish the chase inside 15 overs.

Presentations and Road Ahead

Rashid Khan the winning MICT skipper said : The way we started with the ball, and then with the bat was amazing. It was much needed for me – taking wickets, which I haven’t done in this competition. On such wickets it’s important as a bowling unit to take advantage of the new ball. The way everyone responded in the first 10 overs was impressive.

The way they batted from 22/4, taking it to 150 was a brilliant partnership. But as a team we had in the mind that we can be chasing something around 160-170. Wicket was nice, ball was coming on nice. From last two years the way he has been contributing has been outstanding (talking about Rickelton).

Keshav Maharaj the losing DSG skipper said : Probably lost our way in the powerplay with the bat. Kudos to Klaasy and Kane for getting a score. Pitch got better but we bowled loose balls. It’s been that sort of season for us. To put in the processes, coming off the high from last year and to finish where we are. Disappointing. There’s lots of glimpses in the bowling that we can be proud of. Fielding was better today.

Heinrich Klassen Player of the Match for his stellar 66 runs said : It’s been a long frustrating campaign. Pity it’s too late. I’ve been there before, so I know exactly what to do. But it’s part of the game. I’ve been hitting the ball nicely. Been doing all the right things. My process has been the same.

Was finding ways of getting out. Just part of the game. I still had the confidence that I was hitting the ball well. We just said we’ll take it on like a one-day game. Just make sure the strike rotation is good. He’s such a calm head. The way he’s not fussed about how it looks. It’s an attribute every youngster needs to look up to – find ways to score runs.

South Africans for MI Cape Town shine with the bat to complete a simple chase at Newlands against Durban Super Giants.

The visitors struggled to find momentum in the match, losing wickets at crucial stages that completely halted their flow. All they needed was to take six wickets to rattle DSG and restrict them to a below-par total.

Heinrich Klaasen scored a crucial 66 off 43 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes) to help the Durban Super Giants limp to 149-6, helped only by a half-century from Kane Williamson (5 fours, 2 sixes). The MI chase was kickstarted by a 75-run partnership between Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton. This laid the foundation for the middle order to take things home.

Van der Dussen was the first to fall, bowled by Keshav Maharaj on 24 in the 9th over. Rickelton scored his second half-century of the tournament – 63 off 41 balls (3 fours, 6 sixes). He took his side to 98-2 before losing his wicket on the last ball of the 11th over, to Junior Dala. Dewald Brevis (26 off 16 balls) and George Linde (29 off 8 balls) took their team home. They chased down the target with 31 balls remaining, winning by 7 wickets. The victory took MI to second on the table.

What a finish from Linde who was sent out to achieve the bonus-point win, and he did it with more than an over to spare. Yet another defeat for Super Giants as they remain at the bottom of the table. It was a horror start with the bat for them, losing four wickets in the first 7 overs with just 22 on the board. Klaasen and Williamson led a superb recovery for them with a partnership of 121, but that wasn’t enough. The pitch probably got better under lights, and MICT came out all guns blazing as a couple of DSG bowlers bore the brunt of the onslaught.

Linde reaches out and carves it over point for his fourth six in five balls. MICT win with a bonus point and move back to second spot on the table
