IND vs SA: Proteas Create History After Further Extending Their Lead

With the fourth day of this 2nd test between India and South Africa officially over, it was pretty clear that one side continued dominating and cruising to victory with a final three sessions to finish it off tomorrow. Seeing that the Proteas put on a historic 548-run lead and something India has never been able to chase down, a lot of their credit goes to the batters who seemed to be playing with a real purpose today.

Despite still not having pure batters such as Dewald Brevis for this series, their other pieces really showed up and provided more consistent flow for this unit. Led by captain Temba Bavuma, he was someone who made his plan work perfectly and has become recognized for some great abilites to motivate teammates in pressure situations.

Meanwhile, India find themselves in an even bigger hole after their previous days hadn’t gone very fluently either. Struggling to still do anything much in the bowling department, it’s clear that one of their biggest downfalls was being resistant to change the type of deliveries they were giving South African batsmen.

A group that doesn’t have Shubhman Gill for the rest of this series, his loss will hurt them in the change because he was the only piece that could make a world of difference in this batting attack. With Rishabh Pant leading this side once again, several questions will be asked if he can’t produce tomorrow, as tons of pressure is going to be on him to at least create a draw.

South Africa: Batting Unit Built A Strong 2nd Innings Before Declaring

For South Africa’s batting, it was pretty clear that they continued dominating these conditions and understood how to play in them after putting together another strong knock. With Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickleton continuing their opening duo from yesterday, these two went for 59 runs together while batting for over 18 overs.

Seeing Rickleton who ended up being their first wicket, he scored 35 runs on 64 balls and was able to knock four boundaries all around the ground. With Aiden Markram falling right after him, he got clean-bowled by a suprise from Ravindra Jadeja and ended up going out for 29 after hitting three strong boundaries.

At the stage where they were 77/3, Temba Bavuma wasn’t able to produce much with the bat for the first time this whole series, while Tristan Stubbs would have to create something with Tony De Zorzi. That is exactly what happened as the duo went for a 101 run combination with De Zorzi falling one run short of a 50-mark. Scoring four boundaries and launching one six at an epic rate, he was able to be aggressive, which helped Tristan Stubbs feed off him and score 94 runs on 180 balls before getting out.

As Stubbs also added 10 combined boundaries and looked very strong whenever he had to find the open areas, him, plus Wiaan Mulder, 35 runs, finished off the innings at 260/5.

India: Bowlers Had A Nightmare Trying To Attack The Stumps and Produce Key Wickets

This was another rough day for India’s bowling attack as they clearly couldn’t do anything out of the ordinary and were getting smacked around pretty easily. Seeing that Jasprit Bumrah only ended his bowling innings with 6.0 overs, it seemed like he was a little exhausted and started giving up nearly four runs and overs.

With Mohammed Siraj being at a very similar position, this was mostly the day of spinners trying to produce as the pitch as completely dried up. Looking at Kuldeep Yadav, he was the real star of the first innings, but went wicketless here and was still giving up runs at a pretty high economy, considering that the pitch offered way more turn.

On the other end, Washington Sundar was in a similar stage despite picking up one wicket in his 22.0 overs. Someone who gave up 67 runs and was leaving the ball too full or short at times, his economy really jumped between the 10th to 15th overs.

Their one main piece that performed today was Ravindra Jadeja as he used the turning abilites to his advantage and got yet another 4- wicket haul. The only bowler that looked like a real threat to the South African batsmen, it was pretty clear he was trying to fool them with a ton of deliveries. Taking out big wickets like Aiden Markram, his bowling was something they really needed to avoid a complete disaster.

India: 2nd Innings Started With A World Of Struggles Again As South Africa’s Bowling Dominates

On India’s side, their second innings in this match was very similar to the first as they have already lost wickets with barely any batting done yet. Currently being two-down, their openers in KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal were only able to produce a 17-run partnership up front. With Jaiswal being the first wicket gone, it was key for India because he was playing at a very aggressive level with one six plus four, plus looked like he would have gone on for long.

Losing KL Rahul right after him f0r 6 runs on 29 balls, he was another big piece lost, and this India side ended the day of with Sai Sudharshan, plus Kuldeep Yadav in the crease as a night-man watch.

For South Africa’s bowling, it was truly dominant from the start as they understood the plan of attacking with more than anything else. As Marco Jansen has already picked up a wicket himself as a major left-handed pacer for this unit, he bowled 5 overs and only allowed 14 in them.

Looking at them using Wiaan Mulder too, they then switched to their spinners where Simon Harmer ended up getting a massive wicket of Rahul and is going to continue bowling with tons of turn. Seeing that Keshav Maharaj also got a chance today, he provided some wicket-taking threat and will be tasked with continuing heading into tomorrow’s play.

What Is On The Radar For Tomorrow?

As day 5 is expected to be the final day of action between these two sides, it will be one where South Africa hope to get their eight wickets in a hurry so they can avoid the draw. With India hoping to create some type of draw like this after showing that they could do it in England, their side will rely on Sai Sudharshan and Rishabh Pant to make a huge difference.

Meanwhile, for the Proteas, Simon Harmer will continue trying to dominate with his spin, while Marco Jansen has seemed to be the only pacer that can dominate these conditions. With it being interesting to see who actually comes out on top, tommorow is going to be filled with a lot more urgency from both sides.
