RR vs DC: KL Rahul Reclaims Orange Cap In DC’s Record Chase

In a game where the scoreboard felt like it was moving at the speed of light, the Delhi Capitals (DC) proved that no mountain is too high. Faced with a daunting target of 226 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, DC didn’t just chase it down; they did so with clinical precision. At the heart of this historic victory was KL Rahul, whose masterly 75 off 40 balls not only secured him the Player of the Match (POTM) award but also catapulted him to the top of the Orange Cap standings for IPL 2026.

The Launchpad: A Century Opening Stand

Delhi’s pursuit of the 226-run target began with a statement of intent. The opening pair of KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka dismantled the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) bowling attack from the first over, racing to 70/0 in the Powerplay. Nissanka played the role of the primary aggressor early on, smashing 62 off 33 deliveries (6 fours, 3 sixes) before falling in the tenth over with the score at 110.

This century partnership provided the perfect platform, allowing the middle order to play with freedom. Nitish Rana kept the momentum surging, contributing a rapid 33 off 17 balls. By the time Rana was dismissed in the 15th over, DC had already reached 171, effectively breaking the back of the chase.

Technical Dominance: KL Rahul’s Cover-Drive Clinic

While the strike rate was high, KL Rahul’s innings was a lesson in technical security. He remained in control of 83% of his shots, blending traditional class with T20 power. His most productive weapon of the evening was the cover drive, which accounted for 13 of his runs, including three perfectly timed boundaries.

KL Rahul’s 75-run blitz featured 6 fours and 5 sixes, ensuring that even when wickets fell, the required run rate never spiraled out of control. Although he was the last DC wicket to fall at 177/3, his dismissal was merely a footnote in a game he had already dominated.

The Final Flourish: Stubbs And Ashutosh Finish The Job

Rajasthan sensed a late opening when Rahul departed, but the Delhi lower-middle order extinguished any hopes of a comeback. Tristan Stubbs showed great maturity, anchoring the final phase with an unbeaten 18 off 11. He was joined by Ashutosh Sharma, who played a blistering cameo of 25 off 15 balls, peppered with four boundaries.

The duo shared an unbeaten 49-run stand off just 24 deliveries, navigating the death overs with composure. DC crossed the line with five balls to spare, completing their highest-ever successful chase in the IPL and cementing their reputation as the league’s most fearless chasing side.
