Former Indian Cricketer Robin Uthappa expressed discontent over Chennai Super Kings(CSK) allowing New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra to practice at their academy before the recently concluded test series against India. The right-handed batter opined that Indian Premier League(IPL) franchises should always prioritize country over their team players.

Robin Uthappa not happy with CSK’s assistance to Rachin Ravindra for Test series against India

Uthappa also said that the CSK franchise has always been in the front row for helping their players. However, he feels that the Chennai-based franchise should’ve turned their back on Rachin, as it made him all set and ready for the India Test series.

Uthappa posted a video on his YouTube channel about CSK’s gesture. He explained,

“Rachin Ravindra came here and practiced at the CSK Academy. CSK is a beautiful franchise that will always look after its franchise players but a line has to be drawn where the interest of the country comes ahead of your franchise players, especially when he is a foreign player and comes and plays against our country.”

“I am not surprised that CSK always go over and above for their players but somewhere in that kindness, maybe I am not saying the right thing, I absolutely love CSK, but when it comes to the country, there should be a line somewhere where we do not cross that line,” he added.

Rachin Ravindra toiled hard at the CSK academy ahead of the recently concluded series. He batted on typical Indian wickets honing his skills to gear up for the series. The southpaw was one of the standout players for the Kiwis in their Iconic victory on Indian soil. The Blackcaps created history becoming the first team to whitewash the hosts India at their home in a three-match series.

One of the best knocks by an overseas player“- Robin Uthappa on Ravindra’s Ton in Bengaluru

Rachin Ravindra laid the foundation for New Zealand’s series victory with an outstanding century in the first Test in Bengaluru. The stylish left-hander played an impressive knock of 134 runs in the first innings helping the visitors gain a formidable lead.

Robin Uthappa stated that Ravindra’s knock is arguably one of the best by a visiting batsman in Indian conditions. He further added that Ravindra benefited from his training at the CSK’s academy. Uthappa explained,

“On the basis of that preparation, Rachin Ravindra batter brilliantly. One of the best knocks by an overseas player. On that wicket, 134 off 157 balls, it was solid batting. He then showed that he is the future of New Zealand cricket.”

Ravindra amassed 256 runs across six innings at an average of 51.20 in the Test series against India. He was New Zealand’s top run-getter on the tour, and the second-highest overall behind Rishabh Pant (261 runs).
