CSK suffered a close 2-run defeat against RCB at Chinnaswamy. CSK is breaking every record they had this season which isn’t a great thing. With that defeat, this season will top the list as the worst season ever for CSK. Let’s look at the reasons for CSK‘s defeat against RCB
Romario Shepherd’s Rampage
RCB started aggressively in the powerplay by scoring 71/0 in 6 overs, but CSK pulled back the game well in the middle overs. They restricted RCB to 159/5 in 18 overs. But that one over from Khaleel Ahmed to Romario Shepherd changed the momentum completely. He scored 32 runs off Khaleel’s 19th over. Khaleel conceded 33 runs in that over.
Romario carried the momentum to the next over and smashed 20 runs of Matheesha Pathirana in the last over. 21 runs were conceded in that over. RCB scored 54 runs in the last 2 overs. They jumped from 159 to 213 in 2 overs. Those extra runs cost the match for CSK in the end.
Brilliant death bowling from RCB
CSK lost two early wickets in the powerplay, but Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja led the chase well in the middle overs. CSK were 171 /2 in 16 overs. They required 43 runs from 24 balls with 8 wickets in hand.
Lungi Ngidi
Lungi Ngidi came to bowl the 17th over. He gave just 8 runs, and took the wicket of the well settled Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis in back-to-back deliveries. He finished his figures wih 4-29-3.
Suyash Sharma
After MS Dhoni walked in. Rajat Patidar brought Suyash Sharma to bowl the 18th over when 35 runs were required in 18 balls. Suyash bowled brilliantly by not giving any slot deliveries to both Jadeja and Dhoni. He gave just 6 runs in that over and astonishingly Jadeja & Dhoni didn’t take that many significant risks.
That was the only second over in the innings without a boundary. Ngidi didn’t give a boundary in the 16th over before that. RCB required a shutdown over to stop the momentum of CSK batters, and Suyash delivered that when it needed the most.
Yash Dayal
Yash Dayal came to bowl the final over when CSK required 15 runs off 6 balls. He gave just 2 singles in the first two deliveries and dismissed Dhoni in his 3rd ball. Shivam Dube came to face the next ball. 13 runs required of 3 deliveries now.
It was a no-ball, and Dube smashed it for a six. Now, the equation changed to 6 runs off 3 balls. But Yash held his nerves and delivered his stump-line yorkers in the next three deliveries and gave just 3 runs.
His yorkers were so accurate, and even when he missed some of them, those deliveries landed as low full-toss deliveries, making it difficult for the batter to find the elevation to hit sixes.
Brain fade moment from Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis came to bat in the 17th over, and Ngidi bowled a full toss in the leg-stump. He completely missed and got it in his pads. Bowler appealed, and the umpire Nitin Menon raised his finger. But Brevis didn’t notice that and ran for a single.
After that, Brevis took some time to discuss with Jadeja, and when he appealed for DRS, the umpires said the designated time of 15 seconds has been already passed. But, in reply, it was clearly missing the leg-stump. Brevis should have appealed immediately after the umpire raised his finger. He somewhat gifted his wicket to RCB.
Two back-to-back dismissals of Ayush Mhatre & Dewald Brevis slightly affected the momentum in the chase.
